Anthropic has announced applications for its highly competitive 2026 Fellows Program under the Economics & Policy workstream, offering aspiring researchers the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge artificial intelligence research while receiving funding, mentorship, and access to leading experts in the field. About the Anthropic Fellows Program The Anthropic Fellows Program is designed to support talented individuals interested in empirical AI research, regardless of whether they have extensive prior experience in the field. Participants will spend four months working full-time on independent research projects aligned with Anthropic’s research priorities. Fellows will primarily utilize external infrastructure, including open-source models and public AI platforms, to conduct research and produce publicly accessible outputs such as academic papers, reports, or technical studies. According to Anthropic, more than 80 percent of fellows from earlier cohorts successfully produced research papers during the programme. Fellowship Benefits and Financial Support Selected fellows will receive substantial support throughout the programme, enabling them to focus entirely on research and innovation. Focus on Economics and Policy Research The Economics & Policy Fellows track is hosted through The Anthropic Institute and focuses on understanding the societal, economic, and policy implications of advanced artificial intelligence systems. The workstream is intended for individuals interested in exploring how AI technologies affect labor markets, economic systems, governance, public policy, and global security. Potential research mentors include leading experts such as: Maxim Massenkoff Peter McCrory Jack Clark Marina Favaro Jim Baker Participants will engage in research that contributes to evidence-based understanding of AI’s growing role in society. Research Topics Fellows May Explore The programme supports a wide range of projects examining the real-world impacts of artificial intelligence. Potential research areas include: AI’s effects on labor markets and employment. Future workforce development and skill formation. Economic impacts of advanced AI systems. AI-related cyber and biosecurity risks. Societal resilience to emerging AI threats. Early warning indicators for rapid AI advancement. AI governance and public policy frameworks. Technical and Eligibility Requirements To qualify for the fellowship, applicants must: Be fluent in Python programming. Be available to participate full-time for the duration of the programme. Have work authorization in the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada. Reside in one of those countries during the fellowship period. Anthropic has stated that visa sponsorship is not available for fellows. Therefore, applicants must already possess, or independently secure, authorization to work in their country of participation. Flexible Working Arrangements The fellowship offers both in-person and remote participation options. Available workspace locations include: London, United Kingdom Berkeley, California, United States Remote participation is also available for eligible fellows based in: United States United Kingdom Canada This flexibility enables talented researchers from different regions to participate while collaborating closely with mentors and fellow researchers.
