Application Deadline: 30 November 2025 About the Fellowship The Women Leaders for Planetary Health Fellowship is a transformative, interdisciplinary program designed to empower women professionals in healthcare and related sectors to lead action on planetary health challenges. The Fellowship provides an opportunity for emerging and mid-career practitioners to deepen their expertise, strengthen their leadership capacity, and design solutions that connect human health and environmental sustainability. Planetary health recognizes the interdependence between human wellbeing and the health of the Earth’s natural systems. This Fellowship equips women to translate this understanding into impactful leadership, policy engagement, and practice innovations that address climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and other urgent planetary crises. Vision and Objectives The Fellowship envisions a world in which women leaders drive systemic change to secure a healthy planet for current and future generations. Its overarching goal is to cultivate a strong network of women who can bridge the gap between science, policy, and community action in planetary health. Specific objectives include: Empowering women professionals to integrate planetary health principles into health systems, policy, and community practice. Building capacity for systems leadership, communication, and advocacy at local, national, and global levels. Fostering cross-sector collaboration between health, environment, and development stakeholders. Supporting fellows to design and implement projects that create measurable impact in their communities or institutions. Creating a lasting global network of women leaders advancing planetary health solutions. Program Structure The Fellowship is designed as a flexible, part-time program to accommodate participants’ professional and personal commitments. It blends online learning, mentoring, peer collaboration, and project-based application over the course of the fellowship year. Key Components Foundational LearningFellows participate in a series of online modules that introduce the principles of planetary health, climate and environmental justice, leadership, and systems thinking. Leadership and CoachingPersonalized coaching sessions guide fellows in building confidence, refining leadership styles, and aligning professional goals with planetary health priorities. Applied ProjectsEach fellow develops and implements a small-scale Planetary Health Action Project, addressing a key challenge in her context—such as sustainable healthcare delivery, mental health and climate resilience, or community-based environmental health initiatives. Networking and Peer ExchangeThe program fosters an international community of practice where fellows collaborate across disciplines, share challenges and solutions, and build lasting professional relationships. Capstone and ReflectionAt the conclusion of the Fellowship, participants present their project outcomes and reflect on lessons learned, leadership growth, and pathways for ongoing impact. Focus Areas The Fellowship welcomes participants working across the broad spectrum of health and sustainability, including but not limited to: Clinical and public health practice – integrating planetary health principles into healthcare delivery and prevention strategies. Health policy and governance – advancing evidence-informed, equitable, and sustainable policy solutions. Community and mental health – supporting resilience and wellbeing amid environmental and climate stresses. Health communication and advocacy – translating science into public awareness and action. Education and research – developing curricula, conducting transdisciplinary studies, and evaluating planetary health interventions. Who Should Apply The Fellowship is open to women professionals and practitioners from around the world who demonstrate a commitment to health, environment, and sustainable development. Ideal candidates include individuals working in: Healthcare and clinical practice (medicine, nursing, community health, mental health) Public health and epidemiology Environmental health, ecology, or conservation Policy, governance, or health diplomacy Advocacy, non-profit, or community-based organizations Academic and research institutions Eligibility Criteria A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in health, environment, or development sectors. Demonstrated interest in leadership and cross-sector collaboration for planetary health. Commitment to completing the full fellowship program while maintaining professional responsibilities. Proficiency in English (program materials and sessions are conducted in English). Expected Outcomes By the end of the Fellowship, participants will have: Strengthened their knowledge of planetary health and sustainability frameworks. Developed strategic leadership, communication, and advocacy skills. Designed and implemented a practical planetary health initiative relevant to their professional setting. Expanded their global network of peers and mentors in planetary health. Enhanced their ability to influence policy, institutional practice, and community engagement. Graduates will become part of a growing global alumni network of women leading systemic change toward healthier people and a healthier planet.
