The ACU Fellowships 2026 programme offers academic and professional staff from Commonwealth universities an opportunity to strengthen international collaboration, research partnerships, and knowledge exchange across borders. Organised by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the fellowship programme supports short-term research visits that encourage innovation, professional growth, and institutional cooperation among member universities. Applications for the 2026 fellowship cycle officially opened on 28 April 2026 and will close on 25 June 2026 at 3PM UTC. The ACU is the world’s oldest international university network, established in 1913, with over 400 member universities across more than 40 Commonwealth countries. A significant percentage of its members are based in low- and middle-income countries, making the organisation a key platform for advancing equitable higher education partnerships and global academic engagement. Purpose of the ACU Fellowships The ACU Fellowships are designed to promote collaboration between universities across the Commonwealth through funded research visits lasting between one and six months. The programme enables fellows to: Exchange knowledge, expertise, and skills Build sustainable international partnerships Strengthen research collaboration Enhance professional and institutional development Promote intercultural learning and global engagement By supporting mobility between member universities, the fellowship contributes to advancing research impact, innovation, and long-term academic cooperation. Fellowship Opportunities Available The 2026 cycle includes two specialised fellowship categories funded through strategic partnerships. Accountancy Fellowship Supported by the Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, the Accountancy Fellowship focuses on strengthening financial sustainability in higher education institutions across the Commonwealth. Key details include: One fellowship award available Funding of up to £2,500 The fellowship supports projects related to: Higher education finance Research-to-policy engagement Sustainable and innovative funding models The initiative aligns with the ACU Higher Education Taskforce working group on Finance and Funding and aims to strengthen dialogue between researchers, finance experts, policymakers, and institutions. The fellowship also contributes to discussions around: Financial resilience in higher education Long-term institutional sustainability Best practices in university funding systems Hong Kong Inbound and Outbound Fellowships Supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, these fellowships encourage academic mobility and collaboration between institutions in Hong Kong and other Commonwealth universities. Programme highlights include: Two fellowship awards available Funding of up to £2,500 per award One fellowship for inbound travel to Hong Kong One fellowship for outbound travel from Hong Kong The fellowships are designed to strengthen cross-border partnerships and facilitate the exchange of ideas, research expertise, and institutional practices. Award recipients will be required to submit a final report detailing the outcomes and impact of their fellowship experience. Eligibility Criteria To apply for an ACU Fellowship, applicants must: Be academic or professional services staff at an ACU member university Identify or already have a collaborator at another ACU member university in a different country Propose a collaborative project or research visit aligned with the fellowship objectives The programme encourages applications from a wide range of disciplines and professional backgrounds, reflecting the ACU’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and inclusive global engagement. Application Process Applicants are encouraged to prepare thoroughly before submitting their applications. The application process includes: Reviewing the official application guidance and grant FAQs Identifying and confirming collaboration with a host institution Creating or accessing a MyACU account Completing the online application form before the deadline Interested applicants who do not already have a MyACU account must first register through the official ACU portal before accessing the fellowship application system. Applications submitted after the official deadline may not be considered.
