Position Summary The Communications Manager will play a pivotal role in the Seed Fund Delivery Team, supporting the strategic communication needs of this high-impact initiative. The Seed Fund, administered by Conservation International, provides timely and strategic assistance to conserve critical biodiversity reserves and irrecoverable carbon stocks. The Fund also supports the early implementation of “Country Packages”—comprehensive national programs that align governments, the private sector, philanthropy, and multilateral partners to achieve ambitious forest and climate goals. So far, seven countries—Peru, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Papua New Guinea, and the Republic of the Congo—have launched Country Packages, with additional nations currently in development. Seed Fund partners include Conservation International, the Government of France, the Rob Walton Foundation, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Together, these institutions have committed €115 million, with the goal of raising €200 million to protect forests, mangrove ecosystems, peatlands, oceans, and the communities who depend on them. Key Responsibilities The Communications Manager will manage and execute the communications and outreach strategy for the Seed Fund, ensuring visibility, consistency, and alignment with CI’s brand and mission. This role requires a proactive, strategic communicator who can deliver compelling narratives and strengthen the Fund’s profile across global audiences. Core Duties Strategic Communications and Branding Administer and coordinate internal and external communication efforts for the Seed Fund. Ensure that all content aligns with organizational tone, style, and brand guidelines. Review, edit, and refine messaging to donors, partners, and the public to ensure clarity and alignment with the Fund’s objectives. Content Creation and Media Relations Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, feature stories, fact sheets, and promotional materials. Respond to media inquiries and coordinate interviews with Fund representatives. Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists and media outlets to enhance coverage. Digital and Web Communications Manage digital content for the Fund’s online presence, including websites and other digital platforms. Coordinate with CI’s digital communications teams to ensure that websites are current, accurate, and optimized for searchability. Oversee content quality assurance prior to online publication. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Track communication activities and collect data on the performance of specific campaigns and initiatives. Provide analytical insights and recommendations for improving outreach strategies. Contribute to the preparation of periodic progress and impact reports. Stakeholder Engagement and Knowledge Sharing Support storytelling and messaging to highlight the impact of the Seed Fund’s work across partner countries. Facilitate internal communications among project teams and external partners to ensure information flow. Organize and support the communication aspects of key events, workshops, and partner meetings. Working Conditions The position is based in Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, or Colombia. Some international travel (up to 30%) may be required. Extended or non-traditional working hours may occasionally be necessary to meet global communication demands. Flexible work arrangements will be discussed during the interview process. Qualifications Required A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, international relations, public relations, or a related field. 4–6 years of professional experience in communications, preferably within the non-profit, conservation, or development sectors. Strong oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to craft persuasive and audience-targeted messaging. Experience managing multi-platform communications, including print, digital, and social media. Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Team-oriented mindset and proven ability to build collaborative working relationships across diverse stakeholders. Working language of the team is English; fluency in French and/or Spanish is highly desirable. Comfortable working in fast-paced, cross-cultural environments with minimal supervision. Preferred Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, content management systems, or database tools. Background in knowledge management, including the design and dissemination of learning materials. Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation (M&E), including developing indicators and analyzing data. Skills in crisis communication and strategic response planning. Key Competencies Strategic and creative communicator with the ability to translate complex issues into compelling stories. Skilled at influencing and engaging diverse audiences—donors, governments, media, and communities. Adept at coordinating communications across global teams and multiple time zones. Demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and climate action.
