About the Office of Internal Audit and Investigations (OIAI) The Office of Internal Audit and Investigations (OIAI) serves as IFRC’s independent assurance and oversight body. It provides objective audit and investigation services to strengthen accountability, transparency, and performance within the organization. OIAI is composed of two main teams — Audit (responsible for internal audits and coordination of external audits) and Investigations (responsible for examining allegations of misconduct and integrity breaches). The office operates across three strategic hubs in Geneva, Budapest, and New Delhi, ensuring regional balance and accessibility. The Director of OIAI reports to both the Secretary General and the Audit and Risk Commission, maintaining the Office’s independence within the IFRC structure. OIAI’s audit team delivers an annual, risk-based audit plan, coordinates the organization’s external audits, and provides training and capacity building in audit, assurance, and integrity. Purpose of the Position The Auditor will play a key role in delivering high-quality audit services under the supervision of the Audit Manager and Senior Auditor. The incumbent will contribute to audit planning, execution, and reporting while also leading selected end-to-end audit assignments. The position demands analytical rigour, integrity, and collaboration to ensure that audit findings strengthen IFRC’s governance, risk management, and internal control frameworks. Key Responsibilities 1. Audit Delivery Support the planning and execution of audit assignments, including drafting Terms of Reference, conducting audit testing, analysing findings, and preparing reports. Lead selected end-to-end audits with oversight, covering scoping, fieldwork, reporting, and follow-up on recommendations. Ensure timely delivery and quality of assigned audit tasks in compliance with OIAI standards. Communicate audit findings and risks effectively to relevant stakeholders. Support OIAI’s coordination of external audits and collaboration with the Investigations Team when required. 2. Advisory and Capacity Building Contribute to audit advisory services that strengthen IFRC’s internal controls and promote accountability. Participate in the design and delivery of training workshops for IFRC staff and National Societies on assurance and integrity-related topics. Assist in developing knowledge materials and guidance to enhance understanding of risk management and audit principles. 3. Teamwork and Professional Conduct Demonstrate integrity, respect, and collaboration in line with IFRC’s core values. Maintain professional audit qualifications and complete required Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful work environment that upholds IFRC’s Code of Conduct. 4. Contribution to the Annual Appeal Support the implementation of OIAI’s annual appeal activities, including providing technical assistance to National Societies. Deliver presentations and capacity-building sessions that promote sound governance and internal assurance practices. Education and Professional Qualifications University degree in a relevant field (e.g., Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration). Professional audit qualification such as CIA, PIIA, CMIA, ACCA, or IRM. Additional credentials such as ACFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) or CHS IQTS (or equivalent Tier Three qualification) are advantageous. Experience Minimum two years of professional internal audit experience. Demonstrated understanding of risk-based audit methodologies and audit testing techniques. Experience working within humanitarian, charitable, or not-for-profit organisations preferred. Prior international audit experience will be considered an asset. Skills and Languages Strong command of written and spoken English (required). Knowledge of another IFRC language such as Arabic, French, or Spanish (an asset). Excellent analytical, organisational, and report-writing skills. In-depth knowledge of risk management frameworks and organisational assurance practices.
