The South African Reserve Bank Centre for Economic Journalism (SARB CEJ) has opened applications for the prestigious 2027 South African Reserve Bank Scholarships in Economics Journalism, offering exceptional students the opportunity to pursue advanced journalism studies at Rhodes University’s School of Journalism and Media Studies. The scholarship programme is designed to develop a new generation of skilled journalists, economic communicators, and thought leaders who can strengthen public understanding of economic issues affecting South African citizens, communities, businesses, and industries. The initiative reflects the South African Reserve Bank’s commitment to investing in education, professional development, and the advancement of economic journalism within the South African media landscape. Applications opened on 27 July 2026 and will close on 23 October 2026. Scholarship Purpose and Vision The SARB CEJ Scholarship supports students who have a strong interest in both media and economics and who wish to use their academic knowledge and communication skills to promote informed public dialogue. Successful scholars will gain expertise that enables them to interpret complex economic issues, communicate financial information effectively, and contribute to journalism that supports transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making. The programme is particularly suited to individuals who are passionate about using journalism as a tool for public education and social development.
