Description

Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED) is inviting applications for an Associate Media and Digital Communications Officer – LATAM and Asia, a fully remote opportunity within its External Affairs team. The position is suited to communications, media relations, journalism, and digital communications professionals who can work confidently across international media environments and translate complex information into clear, engaging content. ACLED is an independent and impartial organisation that provides real-time data and analysis on political violence and protest across countries and territories worldwide. Its data and analysis are used by journalists, researchers, policymakers, academics, and other stakeholders seeking to understand conflict, political violence, and protest trends. The successful candidate will contribute to communicating this work to audiences in Latin America, Asia, and specialist sectors covering insurance and risk. About the Associate Media and Digital Communications Officer Role The Associate Media and Digital Communications Officer will support ACLED’s media relations and digital communications activities, working closely with the Media Relations Manager and social media colleagues. The role involves supporting media outreach, preparing communications materials, monitoring coverage, producing digital content, and maintaining consistent messaging across ACLED’s communication channels. The position is particularly focused on LATAM and Asia analysis, as well as communicating the impact and relevance of ACLED’s data and analysis to specialist insurance and risk publications. The successful candidate will need strong writing and editing abilities, excellent attention to detail, and an understanding of both traditional media and digital communications. They will also need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced, international environment where emerging news developments can quickly change priorities. The role is fully remote and full-time, initially offered for six months with the possibility of extension. The salary is listed at US$40,000 per year, with a start date as soon as possible. Key Responsibilities A major component of the position will involve supporting ACLED’s media relations activities. The officer will help develop knowledge of relevant journalists, media outlets, and contacts within their designated regions and specialist sectors. Responsibilities will include drafting press releases, media advisories, quotations, background materials, talking points, briefings, and messaging documents under the guidance of the Media Relations Manager. The successful candidate will also support responses to media enquiries and help coordinate interviews and information requests. Media monitoring will form another important part of the role. The officer will maintain journalist databases and media lists, track coverage, and help produce data for communications analysis and key performance indicator reporting. On the digital communications side, the officer will work with social media colleagues to ensure consistent messaging across platforms. They will assist with developing social media posts, graphics, short-form videos, and other multimedia content while ensuring that all materials meet ACLED’s standards for accuracy, branding, and tone. The role also provides opportunities to support podcasts, webinars, and multimedia productions. Duties may include coordinating guests, scheduling recordings, conducting research, preparing scripts and content outlines, and providing basic assistance with video production and short news clips. The officer will also help produce timely content linked to current news cycles and major ACLED data releases. Occasional out-of-hours work may be required as part of a duty rota, with time off in lieu provided. Required Qualifications and Experience ACLED is looking for candidates who are fluent in both written and spoken English and Spanish. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and between two and four years of experience in media relations or journalism. Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills are essential. Candidates should be able to take complex information and transform it into accessible, accurate, and engaging communications materials. Applicants should also understand the media landscape and fundamental principles of digital communications. Experience creating digital content—including social media posts, graphics, short-form videos, and multimedia assets—is required. Familiarity with audio and video editing platforms such as Audacity, Adobe Premiere, Descript, or similar tools will be important. Candidates should also have experience with media monitoring tools, databases, or digital analytics platforms. The position requires excellent organisational skills, the ability to manage multiple deadlines, and the judgement to respond appropriately to rapidly developing priorities. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues and external stakeholders across different countries and time zones are also important. Candidates should have extensive knowledge of how Tier 1 media outlets commission content and knowledge of either the Latin American or Asia-Pacific media landscape. Desirable Skills Experience or knowledge of the insurance and risk media sector would be an advantage. Additional language skills are also desirable. Experience using Asana or comparable project management platforms would strengthen an application, as would previous work in fast-paced communications environments. ACLED is also interested in candidates with experience supporting communications within academic, data-driven, or policy-focused organisations. Knowledge of campaigns, event support, cross-team content coordination, SEO, and digital analytics best practices would provide additional value. Who Should Apply? This opportunity may be particularly attractive to communications professionals who enjoy working at the intersection of media, digital storytelling, data, conflict analysis, and public policy. Candidates should be capable of communicating technical or complex research findings to different audiences while maintaining accuracy and editorial quality. Experience working with international organisations, research institutions, media organisations, policy organisations, or data-driven teams could be especially relevant. The successful candidate will join a global remote team and work closely with colleagues responsible for media relations, social media, research, analysis, and external affairs. Application Requirements Applicants must submit all three required application materials for their application to be considered: A current CV A cover letter explaining why they are qualified for the position and why they are interested in joining ACLED A separate document containing links to a professional portfolio showcasing their strongest work Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a brief exercise as part of the recruitment process.
