The African School of Regulation (ASR) is pleased to announce the opening of applications for ten scholarships for qualified and motivated early- to mid-career energy professionals. These scholarships support participation in the Power Sector Regulation in Africa course, a flagship program designed to strengthen regulatory and institutional capacity across the continent’s energy sector. The scholarship covers only the online component of the course. The optional one-week in-person component is not included. Applicants interested in attending the in-person session are encouraged to seek alternative funding sources to benefit fully from the program’s immersive learning experience. About the African School of Regulation The African School of Regulation is a pan-African capacity-building institution dedicated to advancing knowledge, leadership, and best practices in energy regulation. ASR works to equip professionals with the skills and insights required to support effective, transparent, and sustainable energy systems across Africa. Through targeted training programs, research, and policy engagement, ASR contributes to strengthening regulatory frameworks and improving governance in Africa’s evolving energy landscape. Who Should Apply The ASR Scholarships are intended for individuals who are committed to contributing to the long-term development of Africa’s energy sector. Early- and mid-career professionals from the following sectors are strongly encouraged to apply: Regulatory authorities Ministries and government agencies Power utilities Academic and research institutions Investment organizations Development and international cooperation organizations Applicants should demonstrate a clear interest in power sector regulation and a strong commitment to applying course knowledge within their professional and national contexts. Eligibility Criteria To be eligible for an ASR Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Be a citizen of an African country Be currently working in the African energy sector Have a background in energy, regulation, or a related field Hold a master’s degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of three years of professional experience Alternatively, applicants with a bachelor’s degree may be considered if they have at least five years of relevant experience Demonstrate financial need Show a clear commitment to applying the knowledge gained to support energy sector development in Africa Commit fully to the online program, including: Weekly live classes Online discussions Weekly assignments Completion of a final report How to Apply Interested candidates must submit their applications through the official ASR online application platform. Application steps include: Completing the online application form Uploading all required supporting documents Providing a detailed statement of interest outlining motivation and professional goals Required documents: Curriculum vitae (CV) or résumé Copy of highest educational qualification Contact details of a current employer or professional referee A motivation statement addressing: Relevant professional experience related to the course Reasons for applying for the scholarship, including financial need How the applicant intends to apply the course knowledge to strengthen the energy sector in Africa Incomplete applications will not be considered. Selection Process Applications will be reviewed by an independent selection committee. Scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria: Alignment between the applicant’s motivation and the course objectives Demonstrated commitment to improving Africa’s energy sector Financial need The selection process is competitive, and meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee an award.
