The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Manufacturing 4.0, known as meta4.0, is a two-year, full-time Master’s programme fully taught in English and jointly delivered by six leading European universities across France, Italy, Germany, Norway, and Slovenia. Designed in close collaboration with industry, the programme addresses the urgent skills gap in advanced, digital, and sustainable manufacturing by educating a new generation of highly qualified professionals. meta4.0 responds directly to the challenges and opportunities of Industry 4.0, combining technological excellence with sustainability, innovation, and international mobility. Graduates are equipped to work globally in manufacturing sectors undergoing rapid digital and green transformation. Programme Focus and Objectives The primary objective of meta4.0 is to train future manufacturing experts capable of leading innovation in complex industrial environments. Programme Structure The meta4.0 programme combines theoretical foundations with applied learning through laboratories, projects, and internships, delivered in a multidisciplinary and international environment. Year 1: Core Foundations During the first year, students acquire strong mandatory fundamentals through studies in two countries: France: Core manufacturing technologies and processes Italy: Materials science and materials engineering This structure ensures all students develop a robust and shared technical foundation essential for advanced manufacturing careers. Year 2: Specialisation and Mobility In the second year, students choose one of four specialisations and continue their studies at one of the partner universities located in: Norway Slovenia France Germany This year emphasises advanced topics, applied research, and industry-oriented learning, often combined with internships or project-based work. Academic and Industrial Excellence meta4.0 is delivered by a consortium of some of the most prominent European universities in the field of manufacturing. The choice of partner institutions reflects the strength of manufacturing in Europe, particularly in Germany, Italy, and France, which together account for a significant share of the EU’s manufacturing value added. The programme is further strengthened by the active involvement of industrial partners from sectors such as: Aerospace and aviation Automotive manufacturing Energy and automation Advanced manufacturing and production systems These partners contribute to curriculum design, internships, applied projects, and industry feedback, ensuring the programme remains aligned with labour market needs. Career Prospects Graduates of meta4.0 are prepared for high-level positions in both public and private sectors worldwide.
