The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is inviting applications for a Global Health Internship focused on Organisational Development and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) in Bonn, Germany. The internship offers students and recent graduates an opportunity to gain practical experience in global health, international development, health systems strengthening, data analysis, impact measurement, and international partnerships. The successful intern will join the Hospital Partnerships – Partners Strengthen Health global programme and support the development of the emerging Hospital Partnerships Alliance (HPA), an international successor organisation designed to expand the programme’s hospital partnership model globally. The internship is offered on a full-time basis and runs from 1 September 2026 to 28 February 2027. Application Deadline: 16 August 2026 About the GIZ Global Health Programme The GIZ global programme Hospital Partnerships – Partners Strengthen Health supports a worldwide community of more than 650 hospital partnerships across nearly 80 countries. The programme is funded by the German Government and works to strengthen health systems in low- and middle-income countries through collaboration between healthcare institutions and professionals. During this internship, the successful candidate will join a team working during an important transition period as the programme supports the development of the Hospital Partnerships Alliance (HPA). The intern will gain exposure to international stakeholders while contributing to organisational development, digital tools, event coordination, research, data analysis, and impact measurement. About the Internship The internship is designed for students interested in global health and international cooperation who want to gain practical experience working with an international development organisation. The intern will communicate with stakeholders from different professional backgrounds, support the introduction of new software and digital tools, help organise events, analyse data, and contribute to research on current global health policy issues. The position combines global health research, organisational development, monitoring and evaluation, stakeholder engagement, and programme administration. Key Responsibilities The successful intern will undertake a range of responsibilities, including: Communicating with international hospital partnership stakeholders Supporting mobilisation around the Hospital Partnerships Alliance Helping introduce and develop digital tools and software Supporting the preparation and implementation of events Assisting with post-event activities Analysing programme data Preparing and presenting research findings Supporting efforts to demonstrate the impact of international hospital partnerships Assisting with administrative processes Conducting research on current global health policy issues The role provides practical exposure to both the strategic and operational aspects of international health cooperation. Global Health Research Areas As part of the internship, the successful candidate may contribute to research and activities related to current global health topics. These include: Antimicrobial resistance Sexual and reproductive health and rights Gender and health Digital health Nursing Health workforce development Global mental health Health systems strengthening International medical partnerships This makes the opportunity particularly relevant to students pursuing careers in global health, public health, medicine, international development, health policy, or research. Data Analysis and Monitoring & Evaluation A major component of the internship involves data collection, analysis, visualisation, and impact measurement. The intern will help analyse data generated through international hospital partnerships and prepare findings that demonstrate the programme’s outcomes and impact. Applicants should therefore have an understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research methods and experience using software for data collection, analysis, or visualisation. This aspect of the internship can provide valuable practical experience for students interested in monitoring and evaluation, health research, programme evaluation, or development data. Who Can Apply? Applicants should currently be studying in a relevant field from at least their fourth semester. Eligible areas include: Health sciences Political science Social sciences Nursing Medicine Related disciplines Applicants should demonstrate an interest in: Global health Medicine International cooperation Civil society engagement Health systems strengthening Medical workforce development International health partnerships Previous practical experience in these areas is an advantage but is not necessarily required. Required Skills and Experience Candidates should have: Strong understanding of data and research methods Experience with qualitative and quantitative approaches Experience using software for data collection, analysis, or visualisation Strong German language skills at C1 level or higher Very good English language skills Good knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Experience using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams Experience using AI tools Knowledge of an additional foreign language is considered an advantage. The ideal candidate should also be proactive, organised, committed, and comfortable communicating with international partners. Eligibility Requirements for the Internship The internship is only available to individuals who are: Currently enrolled as students, or Undertaking further education where an internship is an integral component, or Graduates whose degree was completed no more than six months before the start of the internship This requirement is important because applicants who do not meet the relevant student or recent-graduate status may not be eligible for the position.
