Sanctuary Scholarship Full Tuition Waiver The University of Glasgow has established the Sanctuary Scholarship to support students with refugee or asylum seeker status currently residing in the UK. This scholarship provides a full tuition fee waiver along with additional financial support for living and study costs, enabling recipients to focus on their academic and personal development. It is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate taught students starting their studies in September 2026/27. Applicants must have applied to the university before submitting their scholarship application. Sanctuary Scholarship Benefits Full tuition fee waiver for the duration of the programme for those ineligible for mainstream funding £5,000 per year stipend to assist with living and study costs Coverage applies to full-time programmes only (PGDip, PDGE, or part-time programmes are not eligible) University accommodation is not included, so students must cover housing costs or live within commuting distance For postgraduate taught Master’s students, the scholarship provides a partial tuition fee waiver in addition to the £5,000 stipend, covering any shortfall not met by the Postgraduate Masters tuition fee loan. Sanctuary Scholarship: Eligibility Criteria Applicants must: Hold a conditional or unconditional offer for full-time study at the University of Glasgow for 2026/27 Be located in the UK with Home or RUK fee status Meet one of the following criteria regarding immigration status: Submitted an asylum claim in the UK Actively appealing a negative asylum decision Granted Refugee Status, Humanitarian Protection, or Discretionary Leave Alternatively, come to the UK through resettlement schemes such as: UK Resettlement Scheme (UKRS) Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme or Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) Ukraine Sponsorship or Family Schemes Sanctuary Scholarship: Number of Scholarships 19 scholarships are available for the 2026/27 academic year Recipients of the scholarship are also automatically considered for donor-funded awards, which provide the £5,000 stipend only. Application Process Applicants must submit relevant documentation to verify their refugee, asylum, or resettlement status. Accepted documents include: Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or Application Registration Card (ARC) Immigration Bail Reporting Notice (if applicable) Home Office documentation related to asylum claim or appeal UK government share code verifying right to study (for e-visa holders) All applications must be submitted through the university portal before the deadline: 29 May 2026. Applications submitted without supporting documents will not be considered. Additional Notes If immigration status changes during study, students must inform the Scholarships Team; eligibility and funding may be recalculated This scholarship does not cover accommodation costs Applicants are encouraged to ensure their visa and BRP documentation is valid before applying Sanctuary Scholarship: Why Apply?
