Goldsmiths, University of London, is offering two fully funded Migrant Futures Doctoral Studentships as part of a major grant from the Oak Foundation to establish the new Migrant Futures Institute (MFI). These studentships aim to advance innovative migration research while foregrounding migrant intellectual lives and creative practice. Application deadline: 27 March 2026 (5:00 PM GMT)Year of entry: 2026–27 What Is Available Two fully funded doctoral studentships for 2026 entry. Available on a full-time (3 years) or part-time (6 years) basis Funding equivalent to UKRI fully funded studentships Covers tuition fees (Home or Overseas rate) Annual stipend at UKRI rate (currently £22,780 FT; £11,390 PT) Research Training Support Grant (£750 per year FT; £375 PT) Successful candidates will be designated Fellows of the Migrant Futures Institute and will actively contribute to the Institute’s research culture and activities. The Two Awards: Migrant Futures Doctoral Studentships 1. Targeted Award (Home Applicants Only) Open to eligible home applicants who: Identify as migrants or refugees Are from racialised ethnic minority backgrounds This award is open across any field of research or practice at Goldsmiths where supervision is available. Applicants do not need to propose a migration-related topic. However, they must demonstrate how their doctoral work will enhance their own economic, creative, and intellectual lives and that of others. 2. Migration-Focused Award (Open to Home and International Applicants) Open to all eligible applicants, regardless of background. The proposed PhD must: Focus on migration (broadly conceived) Engage with issues such as race and racialisation Be informed by co-production of knowledge with migrant or refugee communities Demonstrate potential for social and cultural impact About the Migrant Futures Institute The Migrant Futures Institute (MFI) seeks to: Advance interdisciplinary migration research Support creative and critical scholarship Centre migrant and refugee intellectual contributions Foster social and cultural transformation through research and practice Studentship holders will be expected to: Contribute to MFI events and activities Enhance the Institute’s research culture Engage in collaborative and community-informed research Successful applicants from racialised backgrounds will also be invited to participate in Generation Delta Goldsmiths activities. Eligibility Criteria: Migrant Futures Doctoral Studentships Applicants must: Be new or continuing doctoral students Not have completed more than: 1 year of full-time PhD registration, or 2 years of part-time registrationby the start of the 2025–26 academic year The studentships are open to both home and international applicants, with at least one award reserved for a qualifying home applicant from a migrant/refugee and racialised ethnic minority background.
