The AFS Intercultural Programs Youth Assembly continues to serve as a global platform that empowers young leaders to collaborate on solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. In partnership with AstraZeneca, the organisation is offering Young Health Programme (YHP) Scholarships that enable outstanding youth leaders to participate in the AFS Youth Assembly 2026, scheduled to take place from 12–14 August 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland. The scholarships are designed to support passionate and driven young leaders who are actively contributing to global health, climate action, and the development of resilient health systems. Through this initiative, AstraZeneca aims to empower emerging changemakers and strengthen a global network of youth advocates committed to building healthier and more sustainable communities. Purpose of the Young Health Programme Scholarships The scholarships form part of AstraZeneca’s Young Health Programme, a global initiative focused on improving health outcomes for young people while addressing the broader social and environmental factors that influence wellbeing. The programme prioritises youth leaders who are working in areas such as: Health Equity Promoting equal access to healthcare services and education Preventing non-communicable diseases among young populations Supporting individuals living with rare diseases Health Systems Resilience Strengthening healthcare systems through innovative solutions Encouraging early intervention and preventative healthcare Supporting sustainable healthcare infrastructure Climate and Nature Action Addressing the health impacts of climate change Promoting environmental sustainability Advocating for policies that protect ecosystems and public health These focus areas recognise that sustainable development depends heavily on equitable healthcare systems, environmental protection, and strong community health initiatives. What is the AFS Youth Assembly? The AFS Youth Assembly is an international gathering that brings together young leaders, innovators, and changemakers from more than 100 countries. The event fosters collaboration, intercultural dialogue, and leadership development among youth who are passionate about addressing global challenges. The 31st Session of the AFS Youth Assembly will take place under the theme: “Rise. Reimagine. Rebuild: A World for All.” This theme encourages participants to rethink global development strategies and explore inclusive solutions that address social, economic, and environmental issues. Delegates will explore key topics including: Reclaiming Development as a Human Right Climate Resilience and Policy Innovation Youth Innovation in Education Bridging Global Divides Through Collaboration The assembly creates a dynamic learning environment where participants exchange ideas, develop practical skills, and collaborate on innovative solutions that contribute to global progress. Programme Activities and Opportunities Participants in the Youth Assembly will engage in a comprehensive programme designed to inspire leadership and foster global partnerships. Key programme elements include: Keynote Talks and Interactive Sessions Inspirational talks from global leaders, policymakers, and innovators Thematic Discussions Expert-led panels addressing pressing global issues Skill-Building Workshops Practical sessions designed to strengthen leadership and project development skills Awards and Recognition Opportunity to compete for the AFS Award for Young Global Citizens, valued at $10,000 Networking Opportunities Connections with international peers, professionals, and mentors Cultural and Social Events Special dinners, cultural celebrations, and collaborative activities such as CultureFest These activities help delegates develop global competence, leadership skills, and collaborative networks that extend far beyond the conference itself. Scholarship Benefits Recipients of the Young Health Programme Scholarships will receive comprehensive support to participate fully in the Youth Assembly. The scholarship includes: Full program registration fees for the AFS Youth Assembly (12–14 August 2026) Travel stipend reimbursement to cover transportation and visa application costs Four nights of hotel accommodation in Geneva, including breakfast Access to exclusive networking and social events with global delegates This support ensures that young leaders from diverse backgrounds can participate in the event regardless of financial barriers. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the scholarship: Be between 18 and 35 years old at the time the programme begins Demonstrate active involvement in health equity, health systems resilience, or climate and nature action Have never attended the AFS Youth Assembly before Be able to actively participate in English-language sessions Be available to attend the full programme from 10–15 August 2026, including travel days Have the ability to secure a visa and travel to Switzerland Candidates from all countries are encouraged to apply. The selection committee may also consider applicants older than 35 if they demonstrate exceptional impact, leadership, and commitment to global change. The programme operates in more than 40 countries and focuses on preventing major non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as: Cancer Diabetes Cardiovascular disease Respiratory disease Through research, community programmes, advocacy, and leadership development, the initiative supports global progress toward United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Target 3.4, which aims to reduce premature deaths from non-communicable diseases by one-third by 2030. By investing in youth leadership and collaborative action, the programme contributes to building stronger health systems and healthier communities worldwide.
