Brand South Africa, in partnership with One Young World, has launched the Brand South Africa: Play Your Part Bursary 2026, offering six outstanding young South Africans the opportunity to participate in the One Young World Summit 2026 in Cape Town. The bursary is designed for young active citizens who are already making meaningful contributions to their communities and wider society. It recognises individuals who demonstrate the spirit of active citizenship by using their time, skills, resources, or other contributions to create positive change in South Africa. About Brand South Africa and Play Your Part Brand South Africa is the country’s official marketing agency, responsible for strengthening South Africa’s brand reputation and supporting its global competitiveness. Through coordinated marketing and communications initiatives, the organisation promotes South Africa as an attractive investment destination while encouraging citizens to contribute positively to the country’s development. The Play Your Part initiative forms part of this mission. It encourages South Africans from different sectors of society, including individuals, businesses, non-governmental organisations, government institutions, schools, and faith-based communities, to contribute towards building a better future. The initiative highlights the importance of active citizenship and demonstrates how individuals can make a difference through their time, money, skills, knowledge, or goods. Six Young South Africans to Receive Bursaries The 2026 partnership between Brand South Africa and One Young World will support six young South Africans to attend the One Young World Summit in Cape Town from 3 to 6 November 2026. The allocation is designed to provide representation from different parts of the country: Three bursaries are reserved for candidates based in Cape Town. Three bursaries are available to applicants based elsewhere in South Africa. The selected participants will join young leaders from around the world at the international summit and gain access to a global network of individuals working to address social, economic, environmental, and community challenges. What the Bursary Covers The Brand South Africa Play Your Part Bursary provides selected participants with access to several components of the One Young World Summit experience. The support includes: Access to the One Young World Summit 2026 in Cape Town from 3–6 November. Travel and accommodation, where applicable. Dinner on 3 November. Lunch and dinner from 4–6 November. Access to the One Young World Global Leadership Programme. Participation in the Action Accelerator. Lifetime membership of the One Young World Ambassador Community. Candidates who are already based in Cape Town should note that travel and accommodation are not provided under the bursary. Eligibility Requirements Applicants must satisfy the programme’s eligibility criteria to be considered. Eligible candidates must: Be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of the One Young World Summit 2026. Be a South African national or resident. Demonstrate a clear commitment to active citizenship. Have contributed to positive change in South Africa. Demonstrate a track record of using their time, money, skills, or goods to benefit their communities or society more broadly. Demonstrate an understanding of important local and/or global issues affecting South Africa. Applicants who will be under 18 at the time of the Summit are not eligible to apply. Who Should Apply? The bursary is particularly suited to young people who have already demonstrated leadership and community engagement rather than applicants who are simply interested in becoming active citizens in the future. Candidates may come from different professional, academic, entrepreneurial, community, or social backgrounds. What is particularly important is evidence of meaningful action and a demonstrated commitment to improving communities and contributing to positive change. Applicants should be able to clearly communicate the impact of their work and explain how their activities reflect the values of the Play Your Part initiative. One Young World Summit 2026 The selected bursary recipients will attend the One Young World Summit 2026 in Cape Town, taking place from 3–6 November. The Summit brings together young leaders and changemakers from different countries and provides opportunities for participants to exchange ideas, develop leadership capabilities, collaborate with peers, and build long-term international networks. Through the Global Leadership Programme, Action Accelerator, and Ambassador Community, successful candidates will also have opportunities to continue engaging with the One Young World network beyond the Summit.
