globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

March 13, 2026

Description

Applications are now open for the Global Interfaith Leaders Fellowship on Climate Change, the world’s first program dedicated exclusively to faith-rooted climate leadership. Founded in 2023 through a strategic partnership between Faith for Our Planet (FFOP) and Duke University’s Divinity School, the fellowship empowers emerging leaders to translate spiritual conviction into measurable climate action. This highly selective initiative equips values-driven leaders to bridge moral vision with practical, community-level impact—positioning faith as a transformative force in addressing climate change. Location: Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, USAProgramme Date: June 2026 Fellowship Vision and Purpose The fellowship was established to support leaders who draw upon their religious and spiritual traditions to catalyze climate solutions. It recognizes climate change as one of the defining moral challenges of the modern era and positions faith communities as essential partners in building a sustainable future. Between 2023 and 2025, the programme trained over 75 leaders from more than 20 countries, representing diverse religious and indigenous traditions. Each cohort has fostered global alliances, interfaith dialogue, and collaborative climate initiatives rooted in shared ethical commitments. Now entering its fourth year, the fellowship will select 20 ambitious and mission-driven leaders committed to spiritual growth, collective action, and environmental stewardship. Programme Structure and Learning Experience The fellowship combines academic rigor with applied leadership training. Led by internationally recognized scholars and practitioners, the curriculum integrates: Interactive seminars Field visits Case studies Facilitated interfaith dialogues Applied leadership workshops Faculty and trainers include experts in theology, ethics, environmental policy, communications, and community-based climate action. Previous contributors have included senior university leaders, policy innovators, and scholars in religious studies and sustainability. Learning Outcomes By the conclusion of the programme, fellows will have: Deepened theological understanding of environmental stewardship and justice Examined how faith traditions inform leadership and care for creation Developed advanced community engagement strategies for multifaith and multicultural contexts Strengthened advocacy and communication skills to shape public discourse Cultivated inclusive, values-driven leadership approaches Built trust-based collaborations across religious and cultural boundaries The programme equips fellows with both intellectual grounding and practical tools to design and implement climate initiatives within their communities. Alumni Impact and Global Network Graduates of the fellowship have gone on to lead initiatives across six continents, influencing environmental policy, mobilizing grassroots networks, and redefining the role of faith in climate advocacy. Upon completion, fellows join a distinguished global alumni network, gaining: Access to regional convenings Opportunities for collaborative partnerships International platforms to amplify their initiatives Continued mentorship and peer engagement This network ensures that the fellowship experience extends beyond the residential programme, supporting long-term impact and global collaboration. Host Institution: Duke University The fellowship is hosted at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina—an internationally renowned research institution recognized for academic excellence and leadership in theology, ethics, and interfaith scholarship. Delivered in collaboration with Duke Divinity School faculty and subject-matter experts, the programme benefits from: A strong foundation in interfaith dialogue Access to environmental research resources A rich intellectual and inclusive academic environment It is important to note that this fellowship is an independent programme organized by Faith for Our Planet in partnership with Duke faculty. It is not degree-granting and does not confer university accreditation. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must: Be between 25 and 40 years old at the time of application Demonstrate academic, professional, or volunteer experience in environmental action, faith-based initiatives, community organizing, or climate advocacy Show access to local networks or a clear commitment to building and mobilizing them Be fluent in spoken and written English Selection is based on leadership potential, commitment to climate action, and capacity to translate faith-rooted values into community-level impact. Why Apply? The Global Interfaith Leaders Fellowship offers: World-class academic engagement Practical leadership development A diverse, interfaith global community Lifelong alumni support A platform to position faith as a catalyst for climate justice This fellowship is designed for leaders who recognize climate change not only as an environmental crisis but as a profound ethical and spiritual responsibility.
