The Re-imagining Reproduction (Re-Re) project invites applications for its short-term research fellowships, running between January and August 2026. These fellowships offer a unique opportunity for scholars and practitioners to engage in critical, interdisciplinary inquiry into issues of reproduction, kinship, and care in Africa. The program seeks to foster new forms of collaboration, intellectual exchange, and knowledge production that challenge conventional understandings of reproduction and its social, cultural, and political dimensions. About the Fellowship The Re-Re Fellowship is designed to support innovative, contextually grounded research that aligns with the project’s broader goals of rethinking reproductive practices and politics across the continent. Fellows will join a vibrant academic environment at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, working closely with project members and partners to explore how reproduction shapes, and is shaped by, local and global forces. The fellowship duration is flexible, spanning two to four months, depending on the scope and focus of the proposed research. During this period, fellows are encouraged to immerse themselves in Re-Re’s interdisciplinary framework, which bridges anthropology, sociology, gender studies, health sciences, political theory, and public policy. Fellowship Package The program provides comprehensive support to enable fellows to focus fully on their research and collaborative contributions. Successful applicants will receive: Economy-class flights to and from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Accommodation for the duration of the fellowship. A living stipend to cover daily expenses. In return, fellows are expected to produce tangible outputs that contribute meaningfully to Re-Re’s academic and public engagement objectives. These outputs may include: Scholarly publications or policy briefs advancing the project’s research agenda. Workshops or seminars that foster dialogue between researchers, policymakers, and communities. Public engagement initiatives such as podcasts, exhibitions, or collaborative fieldwork activities. The specific form of output will depend on the fellow’s area of expertise, methodological approach, and length of stay. Application Requirements Applicants must submit a formal application consisting of: A Curriculum Vitae (CV) outlining academic qualifications, research experience, and relevant publications or projects. A Letter of Motivation (1–2 pages) detailing: The proposed duration of the fellowship (2–4 months). The intended research focus and its relevance to Re-Re’s thematic priorities. The expected outputs, specifying how they will contribute to the project’s scholarly, policy, or public engagement goals. Applications will be evaluated by the Re-Re Advisory Board, which will oversee the selection process to ensure fairness, transparency, and alignment with the program’s vision. Eligibility and Selection The fellowship welcomes applications from early-career and established researchers, as well as practitioners working in fields related to reproduction, gender, health, social justice, and African studies. Candidates should demonstrate: A strong academic or professional background relevant to the project’s themes. A clear interest in interdisciplinary collaboration. The ability to contribute original insights to debates on reproduction and care in Africa. Priority will be given to proposals that demonstrate creativity, methodological rigor, and a clear plan for dissemination and impact.
