The Government of the Czech Republic is inviting eligible international students from selected developing and specific third countries to apply for Government Scholarships for the 2027/2028 academic year. The programme supports full-time study at public higher education institutions in the Czech Republic and forms part of the country’s Foreign Development Cooperation. Applications for the 2027/2028 academic year are open from 21 August to 30 September 2026. Successful applicants will begin their studies during the 2027/2028 academic year. About the Czech Government Scholarship Programme The Government of the Czech Republic has a long-standing commitment to supporting international education through scholarships for citizens of developing countries. Since the late 1950s, more than 20,000 international students have completed studies at Czech universities through Government of the Czech Republic scholarships. The programme is implemented jointly by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health. The scholarships are established under Resolution No. 870 of the Government of the Czech Republic, adopted on 27 November 2024. Eligible Countries For the 2027/2028 academic year, Government Scholarships are available only to citizens of the following countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina Georgia Ukraine Belarus, democratic forces Ethiopia Gabon Mauritania Zambia Bangladesh Cambodia Palestine Guatemala Honduras Applicants must meet the nationality and other eligibility requirements established in the official scholarship guidelines. Available Study Programmes The scholarships support full-time studies for the standard duration of the selected programme. For Czech-language studies, applicants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine and Belarus may apply for selected two-year follow-up Master’s programmes. These students will first undertake a one-year Czech-language preparatory course provided by the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies at Charles University. For English-language studies, applicants from all eligible countries may apply for selected: Two-year follow-up Master’s programmes Three- to four-year Doctoral programmes The available fields and participating programmes are restricted to those listed by the Czech authorities for the 2027/2028 scholarship cycle. Academic Eligibility Requirements Applicants for a follow-up Master’s programme must have successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent undergraduate programme. Applicants seeking a Doctoral scholarship must have completed a Master’s degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification. Candidates applying for English-medium programmes must also complete an online English-language entrance test during the application process. The test is intended to demonstrate that the applicant has an adequate command of English for the proposed studies. Application Process and Deadline Applications must be submitted electronically through the official Czech study application portal. Each applicant may register only once and submit only one application. The application is considered complete only after the applicant has fulfilled all mandatory requirements, including the motivation letter and required tests. Applicants for Czech-language programmes must complete the general study prerequisites test. Applicants for English-language programmes must complete both the general study prerequisites test and the English-language test. The final application deadline is 30 September 2026. Candidates should therefore begin preparing their applications and supporting documents well before the deadline. Important Conditions The scholarship is specifically intended for eligible foreign nationals from the designated countries. Czech citizens, citizens of other European Union member states and foreign nationals holding permanent residence in the Czech Republic are not eligible to apply for this scholarship category. The award of a scholarship is not automatic, and applicants do not have a legal entitlement to receive funding.
