About the DAAD STEM Study Scholarships The DAAD scholarship programme is designed to improve the academic qualifications and employability of talented graduates from developing and emerging nations. The scholarship supports full-time, on-campus Master’s degree programmes only. Programmes must be tuition-free and offered by state or state-recognised German universities. Scholarship Benefits Successful applicants will receive comprehensive financial support throughout their studies. The scholarship includes: Monthly stipend of €992 Health, accident, and personal liability insurance Travel allowance (upon application) Annual study allowance of €460 Carbon offset reimbursement for air travel Additional benefits may also include: Monthly rent subsidy Family allowance for accompanying dependents (where applicable) Financial support for scholars with disabilities or chronic illnesses German language training before and during studies Online language course fees TestDaF or DSH examination fee reimbursement The scholarship does not cover tuition fees. However, applicants must enrol in tuition-free Master’s programmes. Duration of Funding Funding is provided for between 10 and 24 months, depending on the standard duration of the selected Master’s programme. Applicants intending to enrol in two-year programmes should request funding for the full study period during the application process. Continuation of funding after the first year depends on satisfactory academic progress. Who Can Apply? The scholarship is open to high-achieving graduates from developing and emerging countries who wish to pursue a Master’s degree in Germany. Applicants must: Hold a Bachelor’s degree or another first university degree recognised in Germany by the application deadline. Apply for a full-time, tuition-free Master’s programme. Intend to begin studies in Winter Semester 2027/28. Demonstrate excellent academic performance. Meet the language requirements of the chosen programme. Applicants who already hold a Master’s degree are not eligible. Funding is also not available for students who have already started a Master’s programme in Germany. Important Conditions Applicants should note the following: Funding begins in 2027. The scholarship usually starts on 1 October 2027, or earlier if a preparatory German language course is approved. Programmes involving extended study periods outside Germany are not eligible. Applications must be complete to proceed to evaluation.
