Frontline AIDS Seeks a Remote Research Communications Consultant – HEPC III
globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

September 19, 2026

Description

Frontline AIDS is seeking an experienced Research Communications and Knowledge Exchange Specialist to support the Innovate, Involve, Inspire: Preventing Hepatitis C Through Community-Led Harm Reduction (HEPC III) project. The remote consultancy will focus on translating emerging research evidence into accessible, accurate and actionable communications that can influence policy, strengthen advocacy, support resource mobilisation and promote the implementation of harm reduction interventions. The consultancy will run for 20 days between 1 September and 1 December 2026, with the consultant expected to begin as soon as possible. The successful candidate will work closely with Frontline AIDS’ programme, research, advocacy and communications teams and contribute to dissemination activities across Egypt, Kyrgyzstan and Nigeria. About the HEPC III Project In 2023, Unitaid funded Frontline AIDS to assess the effectiveness and acceptability of underutilised harm reduction strategies and hepatitis C (HCV) prevention innovations among people who use drugs. The work is being implemented across community, healthcare and prison settings in Egypt, Kyrgyzstan and Nigeria. The research focuses on innovations including Long-Acting Depot Buprenorphine (LADB), Low-Dead-Space Syringes and Needles (LDSS/N), and integrated hepatitis C testing and treatment. Five research studies and two programme interventions are currently underway, with preliminary findings emerging and the studies expected to conclude by August 2027. Evidence generated through the project will be shared through conferences, workshops and policy forums during 2026 and 2027. The findings are also expected to contribute to WHO guidance on opioid dependence treatment, overdose prevention, and hepatitis C diagnosis and care for people who use drugs. The consultancy will therefore play an important role in transforming complex research findings into communications that policymakers, health officials, programme implementers, donors, advocacy organisations and community stakeholders can readily understand and use. Key Responsibilities The Research Communications Consultant will review preliminary qualitative and quantitative research findings, study protocols, project reports and partner outputs from the three countries. Working with the research and programme teams, the consultant will identify the most significant findings and translate them into a comprehensive, accessible reference document. The document will synthesise findings across the project, link to relevant research outputs and present clear key messages. It will also include a practical messaging framework that can be adapted for different audiences and communication channels. The consultant will additionally develop a range of research communications products, including policy briefs, technical summaries, fact sheets, blog posts, website articles, infographics and presentation materials. These outputs will be tailored to different stakeholder groups while maintaining scientific accuracy and protecting unpublished research findings. Communications and Dissemination A major component of the assignment will involve developing communications strategies and content for priority audiences. The consultant will work closely with Frontline AIDS’ communications team to ensure that all materials reflect the organisation’s brand, tone of voice and strategic priorities. The consultant will prepare presentation decks for conferences, stakeholder workshops and donor meetings, as well as social media content supporting major dissemination moments. They will also contribute to conference, workshop and policy forum preparation throughout 2026 and 2027. The role will involve translating quantitative and qualitative evidence into clear charts, infographics and visual summaries. These materials will help implementing partners, consortium members and advocacy audiences communicate key findings effectively. Expected Deliverables Indicative deliverables include: A comprehensive research findings and messaging framework covering all three countries and major innovation areas. Two to three fact sheets, policy briefs or technical summaries tailored to priority audiences. Pitches for relevant research and medical journals to increase visibility of the findings. Six to seven presentation decks for conferences and stakeholder workshops. A social media content package supporting at least one major dissemination moment. Two to four infographics or data visualisations developed with research and communications teams. Final deliverables and timelines will be agreed during the consultancy’s inception phase and may be adjusted according to emerging priorities and dissemination opportunities. Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have 7–10 years of experience in research communications and knowledge exchange, preferably involving research or higher education institutions. Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of developing research communications strategies, synthesising evidence and producing high-quality communications materials. Experience working across diverse linguistic and cultural environments, particularly in Africa and/or the Middle East, is highly desirable. Previous experience in harm reduction, HIV, hepatitis C, public health or social justice communications will be an advantage. Strong writing, editing, storytelling and knowledge-exchange skills are essential. Candidates should also understand contemporary research communications approaches and demonstrate the ability to work independently, manage tight deadlines and produce accurate, audience-focused outputs. Fluency in English is required, while knowledge of Arabic and/or Russian will be considered a significant advantage.
