The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) has opened applications for its Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MSc-HPE) through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, offering an opportunity for eligible young Africans to pursue an 18-month postgraduate programme focused on transforming health professions education across the continent. Applications opened on 6 October 2026 and will close on 25 October 2026 at 11:59 PM CAT. The programme is delivered through a blended learning model, combining online study with intensive in-person sessions at UGHE in Rwanda. Eligible scholars receive support through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. About the UGHE MSc in Health Professions Education The MSc-HPE is designed for health professionals, educators and emerging academic leaders who want to strengthen health professions education and contribute to improvements in healthcare systems across Africa. The programme runs for 18 months across three semesters and carries 180 credits. Students will undertake online learning alongside intensive face-to-face sessions, practical activities, mentorship and networking. The programme focuses on areas including curriculum development, innovative teaching, assessment, clinical teaching, global health equity, educational leadership, quality assurance, programme evaluation and educational research. Graduates can develop careers as health educators, programme directors, clinical faculty members, curriculum leaders, quality assurance specialists, educational researchers and institutional leaders. What Does the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Offer? The MSc-HPE pathway advertised through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is intended for eligible African applicants who meet the programme’s requirements. The scholarship pathway is designed around equity, leadership development and the preparation of young African professionals who can contribute to stronger health education systems. UGHE particularly encourages applications from young women, refugees and displaced persons, and persons with disabilities. Applicants should note that candidates accepted through this pathway are expected to commit to the full 18-month programme. Students cannot exit early with a postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma. The only available exit award is the MSc in Health Professions Education upon successful completion. Fully Funded Mastercard Foundation Scholarship 2026 at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE): What Will Students Study? The programme covers a broad range of subjects relevant to health professions education and educational leadership. Key modules include: Principles of Curriculum and Course Design Innovative Teaching and Learning Methods Assessment in Health Professions Education Clinical Teaching Principles of Global Health Equity Programme Evaluation and Faculty Appraisal Quality Assurance and Accreditation in HPE Educational Leadership and Management Educational Leadership Practicum Theories of Teaching and Learning Educational Research and Scholarship Practicum in HPE or a Thesis in HPE Together, these modules provide students with academic and practical preparation to lead educational improvements within health institutions. Fully Funded Mastercard Foundation Scholarship 2026 at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE): Who Can Apply? Applicants must meet a number of eligibility requirements to be considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UGHE. Candidates must: Be 35 years old or under at the time of application, with exceptions applying to applicants with disabilities. Be citizens and residents of, or hold refugee status in, an African country. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field. Provide official academic transcripts and a degree certificate as evidence of successful completion. Preferably have professional experience in teaching, supervision or educational leadership within health-related higher education institutions, although early-career applicants can demonstrate teaching potential. If currently employed, provide a signed and stamped institutional recommendation letter confirming institutional support and sufficient time to participate in the online and in-person components. Importantly, applicants who already hold a master’s degree are not eligible for this Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program opportunity. Fully Funded Mastercard Foundation Scholarship 2026 at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE): Application Requirements Applicants must complete the official online application and provide the required personal, academic and demographic information, including information required for consideration under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. Supporting documents include: Passport, national identity card or refugee identification document Academic transcript or transcripts Bachelor’s degree certificate Employer recommendation letter, where applicable UGHE states that applicants should submit one complete application. Incomplete submissions or multiple applications will not be considered. Application Deadline The application period opened on 6 October 2026 and closes on 25 October 2026 at 11:59 PM CAT. Admissions interviews are scheduled for November 2026, while final decisions are expected in December 2026. Because the deadline is approaching, eligible applicants are encouraged to begin preparing their documents early rather than waiting until the final day.
