Organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy, the prestigious program will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from 23 November to 4 December 2026. The Summer School offers participants advanced training in intellectual property, innovation management, and technology transfer while providing direct exposure to global IP experts and practitioners. Aspiring innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, legal professionals, and technology specialists across Africa now have an exciting opportunity to deepen their knowledge of intellectual property (IP) through the 2026 WIPO South Africa Advanced Summer School on Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer. Even better, participation fees have been completely waived, and a limited number of partial scholarships are available for eligible applicants from African countries. About the WIPO Summer School The WIPO Summer School programme is designed to provide senior students and young professionals with a deeper understanding of intellectual property systems and the role of IP in innovation, creativity, research commercialization, and economic development. Participants will explore a broad range of intellectual property topics through: Expert lectures Case studies Group discussions Practical exercises Simulation activities The curriculum focuses on the interaction between intellectual property and other disciplines, helping participants understand how IP supports entrepreneurship, technology transfer, research, innovation, and sustainable development. Why Intellectual Property Matters As African countries increasingly invest in innovation ecosystems, startups, creative industries, and research commercialization, intellectual property knowledge has become a valuable career asset. Hybrid Learning Format The 2026 Summer School will be delivered in a hybrid format, allowing participants to choose between: Onsite Participation Location: Cape Town, South Africa Direct interaction with experts and fellow participants Networking opportunities with professionals from across Africa and beyond Online Participation Attend virtually through Zoom or designated online platforms Access lectures and learning activities remotely While online participation is available, WIPO strongly encourages onsite attendance to maximize learning and networking opportunities. Scholarships and Financial Support One of the most attractive features of the programme is its accessibility. Participation Fees Fully waived for all participants Partial Scholarships A limited number of partial scholarships will be available for selected applicants from African countries. These scholarships are intended to support onsite participation and may help offset some travel-related expenses, depending on available funding and eligibility criteria.
