The German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) has announced exciting new academic career opportunities for researchers interested in global politics, international relations, and advanced research methodologies. The institute is currently recruiting three highly motivated scholars to join the research project titled “Ending External Interventions”, led by renowned researcher Julia Grauvogel. Research Positions Available at GIGA Applications are now open for the following academic positions: 1. Doctoral Research Fellow (m/f/d) – Quantitative Methods GIGA seeks a Doctoral Research Fellow with expertise or strong interest in quantitative research methods. The successful candidate will join the “Ending External Interventions” project on a 65% appointment with a four-year contract. The role is designed to support further academic qualification under Germany’s Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (§ 2 WissZeitVG). Compensation will follow the EG 13 TV-AVH / TVöD salary scale. 2. Doctoral Research Fellow (m/f/d) – Qualitative Methods A second doctoral position is available for candidates specialising in qualitative research methods. Like the quantitative methods role, this appointment is offered at 65% employment over four years, beginning preferably on 1 September 2026. Researchers selected for this role will contribute to in-depth qualitative analysis connected to international interventions and global political dynamics. 3. Postdoctoral Research Fellow (m/f/d) GIGA is also recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow for the same project. The contract duration is three years, with a preferred start date of 1 September 2026. The postdoctoral position is intended for advanced academic development and provides scholars with the opportunity to strengthen their international research profile while working within a globally respected research institution. About the “Ending External Interventions” Project The “Ending External Interventions” project focuses on understanding how and why external interventions conclude, as well as the broader political, social, and international consequences associated with these processes. Researchers involved in the project will engage with high-level academic inquiry and interdisciplinary collaboration. The project is expected to attract applicants with backgrounds in political science, international relations, peace and conflict studies, comparative politics, and related disciplines.
