Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is recruiting an International Drug Quality Assurance Leader to lead its global pharmaceutical quality assurance activities and strengthen access to safe, effective and quality-assured medicines across humanitarian programmes worldwide. This is a permanent, full-time (100%) hybrid position based in any MSF office capable of issuing an employment contract. About MSF International Médecins Sans Frontières is an independent international medical humanitarian organisation providing emergency healthcare to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. Operating through 24 sections, 28 associations and 19 branch offices, MSF International coordinates and supports the global movement while advancing strategic initiatives across its humanitarian operations. Within the International Office, the International Pharmaceutical Coordination (IPC) team coordinates MSF’s global pharmaceutical network, ensuring consistent quality standards for medicines procured and supplied across multiple operational centres and European Supply Centres (ESCs). About the Role The International Drug Quality Assurance Leader will oversee MSF’s global drug quality assurance system, coordinate medicine qualification processes and support strategic procurement decisions that ensure patients receive quality, safe and efficacious medicines. Working closely with pharmacists, procurement specialists, regulatory experts and humanitarian programmes, the role will strengthen quality management systems, coordinate international qualification activities and represent MSF in collaborations with organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and pharmaceutical manufacturers. The position combines technical pharmaceutical expertise with strategic leadership, making it ideal for experienced pharmacists passionate about humanitarian healthcare and global medicine quality. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will lead several critical areas of MSF’s pharmaceutical quality assurance programme. Strategic Drug Quality Assurance Lead the identification and qualification of quality medicine suppliers. Coordinate pharmaceutical quality activities across European Supply Centres. Support the inclusion of new medicines within MSF procurement catalogues. Provide quality assurance guidance for international medicine sourcing. Quality Management System Leadership Develop and revise MSF’s Quality Management System (QMS) for medicines. Maintain and communicate updates to quality procedures and standard operating procedures. Coordinate annual product dossier audits across MSF sections. Lead corrective and preventive actions following quality audits. Produce annual reports summarising pharmaceutical quality assurance activities. Product Qualification and Risk Assessment Coordinate product dossier reviews and qualification activities. Oversee approvals for medicine dossiers, declarations of equivalence and product variations. Conduct pharmaceutical risk assessments supporting strategic medical decisions. Prepare documentation for exceptional medicine validations. Participate in manufacturing site audits and technical monitoring visits. Provide training and coaching to pharmacists joining the MSF pharmaceutical network. Technical Leadership and External Collaboration Serve as MSF’s focal point for antimalarial medicines and related quality issues. Participate in international malaria working groups and technical collaborations. Monitor regulatory developments affecting medicine quality and procurement. Guide the development of the UniQuality pharmaceutical quality database. Support supply transformation initiatives and regional pharmaceutical hubs. Who Should Apply? MSF is seeking an experienced pharmacist with strong expertise in pharmaceutical quality assurance, regulatory compliance and humanitarian medicine procurement. Applicants should have: A Master’s degree in Pharmacy. A minimum of five years of professional experience. At least two years of experience within MSF. Demonstrated experience in pharmaceutical quality assurance. Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and medicine quality systems. Experience with pharmaceutical procurement and quality policies. Excellent risk assessment and analytical decision-making skills. The ability to coordinate multidisciplinary international teams. Fluency in English is required, while proficiency in French is considered an advantage. Skills and Competencies The position requires exceptional organisational and leadership abilities alongside advanced technical knowledge. Ideal candidates will demonstrate: Expertise in pharmaceutical quality management. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience developing quality assurance systems. Ability to synthesise complex scientific and regulatory information. Diplomatic communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Confidence representing MSF in international meetings and technical forums. Capacity to work independently while managing multiple global priorities. Regular international travel, primarily within Europe, is expected. Contract, Location and Benefits Position: International Drug Quality Assurance Leader Organisation: Médecins Sans Frontières International Contract: Permanent, full-time (100%) Work Arrangement: Hybrid Location: Any MSF office able to issue an employment contract in the candidate’s country of residence. Where no local MSF office exists, relocation to an eligible country may be required, subject to local legislation.
