Mizizi Elimu Afrika has announced three Regional Coordinator positions to support the implementation of a major foundational learning initiative across eight counties in Kenya. The positions will contribute to the organisation’s Numeracy at Scale initiative, which aims to strengthen numeracy competencies among approximately 90,000 learners by August 2029. The opportunities are suitable for professionals with experience in education, development, project management, programme coordination, monitoring and stakeholder engagement. Successful candidates will coordinate implementation across assigned counties while working closely with government education offices, schools, implementing partners and field teams. About Mizizi Elimu Afrika Mizizi Elimu Afrika is an African-led organisation working to ensure that children and young people develop the foundational skills and conditions needed to learn, relate and thrive. Its work focuses on literacy, numeracy, life skills and values while also strengthening the systems that influence how learning is defined, supported, assessed and resourced. Mizizi works with stakeholders close to children and young people to improve learning experiences, strengthen relationships, use evidence and influence education policy and resource allocation. The organisation particularly seeks to improve outcomes for learners who are furthest behind. Regional Coordinator Positions Mizizi Elimu Afrika is recruiting three Regional Coordinators, with each position responsible for a specific group of counties: Region 1: Bungoma, Migori and Kericho Region 2: Nairobi, Nyandarua and Embu Region 3: Kwale and Garissa The positions fall under the Foundational Skills Directorate and report to the Manager – Materials & Assessments. There are no direct reports, although the Regional Coordinators will provide matrix coordination with Numeracy Officers and field teams. The positions are offered on a fixed-term basis, subject to availability of funding. About the Numeracy at Scale Initiative The Regional Coordinators will support Mizizi Elimu Afrika’s collaboration with the Ministry of Education on foundational learning reforms. The Numeracy at Scale initiative is expected to operate across eight counties and 300 schools, with the goal of improving numeracy competencies among 90,000 learners by August 2029. Regional Coordinators will serve as the programme’s primary field representatives within their assigned areas. They will coordinate workplans, strengthen county-level engagement, monitor implementation and provide field intelligence to support programme learning and adaptive management. Programme Coordination and Implementation The successful candidates will coordinate the planning, scheduling and implementation of activities across their assigned counties. Key responsibilities include: Coordinating regional implementation workplans and programme activities. Supporting timely delivery of milestones and contractual deliverables. Monitoring implementation progress and addressing operational bottlenecks. Providing technical and operational support to field teams. Coordinating logistics for trainings, workshops, meetings and monitoring visits. Preparing relevant procurement, attendance and activity documentation. Coordinating quarterly meetings of regional and county project steering committees. Ensuring activities comply with approved budgets, quality standards and safeguarding requirements. The coordinators will also support effective implementation by identifying emerging challenges and escalating significant risks to management. Stakeholder Engagement and Government Coordination An important component of the positions will involve building strong relationships with national and county government stakeholders. Regional Coordinators will engage with: County and Sub-County Education Offices. Education officers. Teacher Training Colleges. Curriculum Support Officers. School leadership. Civil society organisations. Implementing partners. Other relevant government and education institutions. They will represent the programme at county-level technical working groups, planning meetings and education sector forums when delegated. The coordinators will also support county engagement plans and partnership strategies while ensuring effective communication between Mizizi Elimu Afrika, government stakeholders and programme partners. Monitoring, Quality Assurance and Reporting The Regional Coordinators will conduct regular field visits to assess implementation quality, participation, safeguarding compliance and adherence to programme standards. They will verify activity outputs, maintain accurate programme records and prepare field monitoring reports covering achievements, challenges, lessons learned and recommended actions. Other responsibilities include collecting qualitative and quantitative data, documenting success stories and innovations, maintaining evidence files and contributing to programme performance reporting. The coordinators will also provide field intelligence to support adaptive programme management and continuous improvement. Risk Management and Safeguarding The positions require strong attention to compliance, accountability and safeguarding. Regional Coordinators will identify implementation risks, escalate issues requiring management attention and support compliance with organisational policies, donor requirements, safeguarding standards and ethical guidelines. They will also support incident reporting and follow-up in accordance with organisational procedures while promoting responsible stewardship of programme resources. Required Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Project Management or a related discipline. Candidates should also possess: Four to six years of relevant professional experience coordinating education, development or donor-funded programmes. Experience working with national or county governments, education stakeholders, NGOs or development partners. Experience in programme planning, field implementation, monitoring, reporting and coordination across multiple locations. Strong understanding of Kenya’s devolved governance system. Knowledge of Kenya’s education sector. Experience in foundational learning or teacher development is an added advantage. Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the assigned region. Technical and Behavioural Competencies Candidates should demonstrate strong programme and project coordination capabilities, stakeholder engagement skills and experience with county government coordination. Technical competencies should include monitoring, reporting, data collection, documentation, activity planning, logistics and budget management. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and digital collaboration platforms is also expected. Strong behavioural competencies include: Planning and organisational ability. Results orientation. Key Deliverables Successful Regional Coordinators will be expected to ensure that regional implementation workplans are effectively coordinated and activities are delivered on time and to required quality standards. They will maintain productive relationships with education offices and programme stakeholders, submit timely monitoring reports, maintain accurate documentation and facilitate county-level meetings and engagements. They will also contribute high-quality monitoring data, implementation feedback and learning insights that can improve the Numeracy at Scale programme.
