About the WMO SOFF Internship The Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) was established to help countries improve weather and climate observation systems, particularly in regions where inadequate data limits effective climate adaptation, disaster preparedness, and sustainable development. Following the expansion of WMO’s mandate as the SOFF Technical Authority for the period 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, the organization is strengthening its technical support to beneficiary countries and operational partners. This includes reviewing investment funding requests, providing technical guidance, operating a helpdesk, coordinating with regional structures, and developing knowledge resources that improve meteorological observations worldwide. To support these activities, WMO is recruiting an intern who will assist the Technical Authority team in delivering critical operational and knowledge management functions. Internship Details Organization: World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Department: SOFF Secretariat Position: Internship-2026-ESDP-SOFF Location: Geneva, Switzerland Contract Type: Internship Programme Application Deadline: 16 August 2026 Duration: Six months, with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs and performance Key Responsibilities Working under the supervision of the WMO Technical Authority Coordinator, the intern will support several technical and administrative activities that contribute to SOFF implementation. Primary responsibilities include: Technical Coordination Assist in coordinating and tracking technical review processes for SOFF Investment Funding Requests. Organize technical documentation and maintain accurate records. Support the Technical Authority helpdesk by monitoring incoming requests and tracking responses. Knowledge Management The intern will contribute to maintaining and improving organizational knowledge by: Preparing and formatting technical guidance documents. Supporting knowledge repositories and document libraries. Maintaining databases related to Technical Authority activities. Assisting with documentation and reporting processes. Meetings and Stakeholder Engagement The successful candidate will also help organize: Technical meetings. International webinars. Workshops. Consultations with SOFF partners. Communication Support Additional responsibilities include: Preparing communication materials highlighting Technical Authority achievements. Assisting with presentations and technical publications. Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously. Capacity to work independently and within multicultural teams. Desirable qualifications include: Experience using Microsoft 365 applications such as Planner and Lists. Experience supporting project coordination or meeting organization.
