The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme invites applications for the 2026/2027 academic year. Established by the Government of Hungary and managed by the Tempus Public Foundation, the programme aims to strengthen international cooperation and cultural exchange by offering fully funded study opportunities for international students at Hungarian higher education institutions. The scholarship supports Bachelor’s, Master’s, One-Tier Master’s, Doctoral, and Non-Degree programmes, providing talented students from partner countries with access to high-quality education in Europe. How to Apply All applications must be submitted through the official online application system of the Tempus Public Foundation. After registering, applicants can log in to upload their required documents, select their preferred programme, and track the status of their submission. The application process is simple and designed to be user-friendly. Applicants are encouraged to: Read the official call for applications relevant to their desired level of study (BA/BSc, MA/MSc, or Doctoral). Select their programme and host institution through the Study Finder platform or directly in the online system. Prepare all supporting documents before submission, as incomplete applications may not be considered. The online application interface can be accessed via the Apply Here button on the Stipendium Hungaricum website. Application Timeline November – December 2025: Identify eligible study programmes for your country and confirm your sending partner’s requirements. January – February 2026: Submit your completed online application and required documents through the Tempus Public Foundation portal. Spring 2026: Review and nomination process by sending partners and host institutions. Summer 2026: Notification of results and preparation for visa and travel arrangements. September 2026: Start of studies in Hungary. Eligibility and Requirements Available programmes vary by country and level of study. Applicants must ensure that the programme they select is eligible under the agreement between Hungary and their home country’s sending partner. Key documents required include: Completed application form Motivation letter Academic transcripts and certificates Proof of language proficiency Copy of passport Medical certificate (mandatory form available on the website) Detailed requirements and submission checklists are available under the “Useful Documents” section, including guides on preparing applications, dos and don’ts, and submission deadlines. Scholarship Coverage The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship provides comprehensive financial support, including: Full tuition exemption at the host university. Monthly stipend to cover living expenses. Accommodation support or an allowance contribution. Health insurance as specified by Hungarian regulations. Doctoral applicants receive additional research support and are expected to participate in the academic community of their host institution. Rights and Obligations Scholarship holders are required to comply with the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme Operational Regulations, including academic progress requirements. From the 2019/2020 academic year onward, all Bachelor’s, Master’s, and One-Tier Master’s students must earn a minimum of 18 credits on average over two consecutive semesters to maintain their scholarship status. In addition, all new scholarship holders are required to complete a Hungarian language and culture course, offered free of charge by the host university. Applicants and current students are encouraged to review the Rights and Obligations and Scholarship Agreement documents regularly, as updates may affect scholarship terms. Special Provisions: Dissertation Scholarship The Stipendium Hungaricum Dissertation Scholarship provides targeted support for doctoral candidates preparing their final dissertations. Major updates to the scheme were introduced in 2025, and applicants are advised to review the latest call and annexes, which include: Letter of justification Motivation letter Work plan Class plan The full Dissertation Scholarship Agreement and its annexes are available in both English and Hungarian. Important Notes Applications are reviewed jointly by the sending partner (in the applicant’s home country) and the Hungarian host institution. Only complete applications submitted by the deadline through the official system will be considered. Applicants are encouraged to check the website frequently for updates or amendments to the call.
