About the Women’s Economic Empowerment Programme UN Women’s WEE programme in East and Southern Africa operates within a complex economic and social environment affected by climate-related challenges, conflict, displacement, fragility and economic shocks. The programme’s priorities for 2026/27 include three major areas: Climate-resilient agriculture and a just transition to the blue and green economies. The care economy. Key Responsibilities The WEE Intern will work under the guidance of a Policy Specialist and provide support across research, programme implementation, communications and administration. Eligibility Requirements Applicants must meet one of the education or graduation conditions specified by UN Women at the time of application. Eligible candidates must be: Enrolled in a postgraduate degree, such as a master’s programme or higher, in feminist economics, gender economics or a related field. Enrolled in the final academic year of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in feminist economics, gender economics or a related discipline. Enrolled in a mandatory national service programme in which the internship can form part. Recent graduates who completed a qualifying university degree and can begin the internship within two years of graduation.
