A major focus will be the application of artificial intelligence, geospatial technologies, digital public infrastructure, data ecosystems, predictive analytics, and early warning systems to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience. Key Responsibilities The successful intern will support research into emerging trends, methodologies, tools, and best practices related to risk intelligence and disaster risk reduction. This will include exploring applications of machine learning, predictive analytics, digital twins, remote sensing, geospatial intelligence, risk modelling, early warning systems, and data visualisation. The intern will also help develop knowledge products such as policy briefs, concept notes, case studies, guidance materials, presentations, briefing notes, donor materials, and communication products. Another important responsibility will involve identifying and documenting innovative solutions and good practices from UNDP Country Offices, Regional Hubs, technical institutions, research organisations, technology providers, UN entities, and academic institutions. The intern will additionally support the development of UNDP’s Preparedness Learning Pathway. Tasks may include researching and categorising learning resources, maintaining online repositories, supporting the development of self-paced courses and thematic modules, and assisting with the Preparedness Toolkit. Participation in webinars and learning activities may also involve preparing webinar plans, facilitation guidance, virtual collaboration materials, discussion activities, reports, and social media communication kits. Skills and Competencies Applicants should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, strong attention to detail, effective proofreading abilities, good organisational skills, and sound computer literacy. Experience or familiarity with conversational AI applications such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Copilot is relevant to the role. Knowledge of collaborative platforms including MURAL, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Forms, as well as design tools such as Canva and Gamma, is also desirable. The role requires individuals who can take initiative, work independently when necessary, collaborate effectively, and operate comfortably within a multicultural environment. Eligibility Requirements At the time of application, candidates must meet one of the following requirements: Be enrolled in a postgraduate programme, such as a Master’s degree or higher, in disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, disaster management, humanitarian affairs, or a related area. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in one of the relevant fields. Have recently graduated with a relevant university degree and, if selected, be able to commence the internship within one year of graduation. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme and undertake the internship as part of that programme. Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset. Stipend and Internship Conditions UNDP indicates that eligible interns who are not financially supported by a university, government, foundation, scholarship programme, or another institution may receive a stipend intended to assist with basic daily expenses. The applicable monthly amount will depend on UNDP internship policies and relevant duty-station rates. Where an intern receives external financial support, UNDP may, subject to applicable rules, cover the difference between that support and the applicable UNDP stipend. Interns will also accrue sick and annual leave according to applicable UNDP policies.
