The University of Nairobi (UoN), through the Department of Management Science and Project Planning within the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, announces the availability of scholarships for the Master of Business Research (MBR) program for the 2026/27 academic year. This two-year program is delivered in partnership with Kuehne Logistics University (KLU), Hamburg, Germany. The scholarships are supported by the Africa Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Operations for Resource Management and Food Supply (SCO), a DAAD-funded initiative that brings together UoN, the University of Dar es Salaam (UDBS), the University of Ghana, KLU, and the LEARN Logistics by Kühne Foundation. The MBR program aims to address existing gaps in business and management education by equipping students with advanced research competencies and interdisciplinary knowledge in operations management, supply chains, business economics, and management science. This approach prepares graduates to produce high-quality, original research that advances business scholarship and practice. Program Overview The Master of Business Research is a two-year, full-time program that integrates rigorous coursework with practical research experience. It is structured as follows: • Year 1: Coursework and Proposal DevelopmentStudents undertake foundational and advanced courses in research methodologies, analytical techniques, operations management, supply chain systems, and business strategy. Simultaneously, they develop a research proposal under the guidance of appointed supervisors. • Year 2: Independent ResearchThe second year is dedicated to fieldwork, data collection, analysis, preparation of publication-quality papers, and completion of the final thesis. Research priority areas include: Business Research Operations Management Supply Chain Management Logistics Related interdisciplinary subjects Although publication is not mandatory, candidates are strongly encouraged to produce at least one peer-reviewed journal article before graduation. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet the following conditions to qualify for the scholarship: • Hold a BSc/BA or MA/MBA/MSc (or equivalent) in business studies, business administration, entrepreneurship, agribusiness management, economics, operations management, management science, supply chain management, or related disciplines.• Demonstrate outstanding academic performance, with at least a Second-Class Upper Division or an equivalent GPA.• Be already admitted to the MBR program for the 2025/2026 academic year, which commenced in October 2025.• Possess experience in basic research within agribusiness, supply chains, operations management, business studies, or related fields (an added advantage).• Have basic analytical and research skills, including the use of relevant data analysis software.• Demonstrate excellent written and spoken English. Required Application Documents Applicants must submit the following documents as one consolidated PDF, in one email: A hand-signed motivation letter (maximum one page, Times New Roman, font size 12, single-spaced). Copies of academic degree certificates. Copies of academic transcripts, including the grading scale. A University of Nairobi admission letter for the MBR program, 2025/2026 cohort. A recommendation letter from the Chairman of the hosting department confirming admission and attendance of coursework since October 2025 (on official letterhead, hand-signed, and stamped). A Curriculum Vitae. Supervision and Academic Support Each candidate will be assigned a primary supervisor from the University of Nairobi. Depending on availability, additional external supervisors may be drawn from: • University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM)• University of Ghana Business School (UDBS)• Kuehne Logistics University (KLU)• LEARN Logistics global academic network Through the SCO Centre of Excellence, candidates gain access to a multidisciplinary community of professors, researchers, and practitioners who support their academic, methodological, and professional development. Scholarship Coverage The scholarship provides: • A stipend from March 2026 to September 2027• Tuition fees for the second year of study This financial support is intended to enable full engagement in coursework, research activities, fieldwork, and academic writing.
