Description

The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) 2027 offers talented international students an opportunity to receive financial support while pursuing a master’s degree in the Netherlands. The scholarship is designed for academically excellent students from countries outside the European Union and European Economic Area (EU/EEA) who have applied for an eligible master’s programme at the University of Twente. Successful applicants may receive between €3,000 and €22,000 for one year to help cover study-related expenses. Applications for programmes beginning in September 2027 open on 15 October 2026, with a final deadline of 1 April 2027. University of Twente Scholarship 2027 Overview Scholarship: University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) Host institution: University of Twente Study destination: Netherlands Study level: Master’s degree Eligible applicants: Excellent students from non-EU/EEA countries Scholarship value: €3,000–€22,000 for one year Programme commencement: September 2027 Application opening date: 15 October 2026, at 09:00 CET Application deadline: 1 April 2027, at 16:00 CET Results announcement: First week of May 2027 About the University of Twente Scholarship The University of Twente Scholarship supports outstanding international students who wish to pursue a qualifying master’s programme at the University of Twente. It targets applicants who demonstrate strong academic performance and rank among the best 5–10% of their graduating class at their home university. The scholarship is intended to compensate students for study-related costs. Recipients can decide how to use the award, but the university does not pay tuition fees or other expenses directly on their behalf. Applicants should note that the UTS is not a fully funded scholarship. Students must assess the total cost of tuition and living in the Netherlands and ensure that they have sufficient financial resources to cover expenses not met by the award. Scholarship Value and Benefits Selected students can receive between €3,000 and €22,000 for one year, depending on the scholarship awarded. The funding can help recipients manage eligible study-related expenses while completing their master’s degrees. However, applicants should not assume that the award covers their full tuition fees, accommodation, travel, health insurance or living costs. Funding for Two-Year Master’s Programmes Students enrolled in a two-year master’s programme may receive an additional scholarship for the second year, equivalent to the amount awarded in the first year. Continuation is conditional on academic progress. By the end of the third quartile of the first year, recipients must have: Achieved an average grade of at least 7 out of 10. Obtained at least 50% of the required European Credits. Students considering a two-year programme should review the university’s full scholarship conditions before applying. Additional Kipaji Scholarship Applicants interested in the Kipaji Scholarship for programmes beginning in September 2027 must first apply for the University of Twente Scholarship. Eligible candidates are advised to indicate their interest in Kipaji in their scholarship application motivation. The Kipaji Scholarship has additional eligibility requirements, which applicants should review separately on the university’s official website. Eligibility Requirements Applicants must meet the University of Twente’s academic, admission and immigration requirements to qualify for the scholarship. Candidates must: Be from a country outside the EU/EEA and not be eligible for a Dutch study loan. Have applied for an eligible University of Twente master’s programme starting in September 2027. Have received a conditional or unconditional admission letter for the qualifying programme. Have a University of Twente student number. Demonstrate outstanding academic performance, typically ranking among the top 5–10% of their graduating class. Meet the university’s English-language requirements. Satisfy the conditions for obtaining an entry visa for the Netherlands, where applicable. Not have graduated from a previous University of Twente undergraduate or graduate programme. The stated English-language requirement is an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL iBT score of 90, together with the specified speaking subscore requirement of IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 20. The scholarship is not available to Dutch students, current University of Twente students, EU/EEA students, students paying the statutory tuition fee, or applicants to pre-master’s programmes. Master’s programmes offered by the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) are also excluded. Applicants who become eligible for the statutory tuition fee after receiving the scholarship must inform the university’s scholarship coordinator, as their award will be cancelled. Application Deadline and Important Dates The application period for the September 2027 intake opens on 15 October 2026 at 09:00 CET and closes on 1 April 2027 at 16:00 CET. Scholarship results are expected during the first week of May 2027. The university advises applicants that the admission process may take up to eight weeks after submission. Only one University of Twente scholarship can be awarded to an individual applicant. How to Apply for the University of Twente Scholarship Applicants must complete the master’s admission process before submitting a scholarship application. The scholarship application is separate from the application for admission to the university. Step 1: Choose an eligible master’s programme. Review the University of Twente’s master’s programmes and identify a qualifying course beginning in September 2027. Confirm that the programme is eligible for the UTS. Step 2: Apply for admission. Submit the required documents and complete the university’s master’s application process. Applicants must receive a conditional or unconditional admission letter before proceeding with the scholarship application. Step 3: Obtain a student number. After applying for admission, ensure that the required University of Twente student number is available. Step 4: Submit the scholarship application. Apply through the university’s official scholarship process once the application window opens on 15 October 2026. Provide the requested information and demonstrate academic excellence and suitability for the award. Step 5: Check additional funding opportunities. Applicants interested in the Kipaji Scholarship for the September 2027 intake should review its separate requirements and indicate their interest in their UTS application motivation if eligible. Step 6: Monitor the outcome and prepare financially. Scholarship results are expected in the first week of May 2027. Applicants should plan how to cover tuition fees and living expenses not covered by the scholarship. How to Strengthen an Application Prospective applicants should begin preparing well before the deadline. Reviewing admission requirements early can help avoid delays that could affect the scholarship application. Candidates should focus on the following: Demonstrate academic excellence: Present academic records that clearly establish strong performance and, where possible, class ranking. Secure admission early: Since scholarship eligibility depends on admission to a qualifying master’s programme, applicants should not leave the admission process until the final weeks. Meet English-language requirements: Arrange any required IELTS or TOEFL assessment in time to meet the university’s conditions. Check programme eligibility: Confirm that the selected programme is covered by the UTS before applying. Prepare a realistic budget: Calculate tuition fees, accommodation, living expenses and other costs that the award may not cover. Review official requirements carefully: Follow the university’s instructions and submit complete, accurate information. Why Consider the University of Twente Scholarship? The UTS provides academically outstanding international students with financial assistance to pursue postgraduate education in the Netherlands. Its award range of €3,000 to €22,000 can reduce the financial burden of studying abroad, while the possibility of additional second-year support may benefit eligible students enrolled in two-year programmes. However, the scholarship is competitive and does not guarantee full financial coverage. Applicants should assess their eligibility carefully and make realistic arrangements for the remaining costs before committing to study. Applications open on 15 October 2026. Interested candidates should first apply for an eligible master’s programme and then submit a separate scholarship application after receiving their admission letter and student number.
