About the Winiarski Scholarships The Winiarski Scholarships are funded by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in the United Kingdom and named in honour of Bohdan Winiarski, a distinguished Polish jurist and former President of the International Court of Justice. The programme is designed to support academic exchange and strengthen research collaboration in international law by welcoming visiting scholars to Cambridge. Each year, two scholarships are awarded to eligible candidates from specific regions. Scholarship Value and Duration Each selected scholar receives: A grant of £3,250 Support for an 8-week research visit in 2027 Access to academic resources at the University of Cambridge The funding is intended to contribute toward costs such as travel, visa expenses, accommodation, insurance, and living costs during the stay. If expenses exceed the grant amount, candidates are responsible for covering additional costs. Winiarski Scholarships 2027: Eligible Countries and Categories The scholarships are open to applicants based on nationality, divided into two categories: 1. Visegrad and Western Balkans States (1 scholarship) Eligible countries include: Czech Republic Hungary Poland Slovakia North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo 2. Eastern Partnership States (1 scholarship) Eligible countries include: Armenia Azerbaijan Belarus Georgia Moldova Ukraine Applicants must be nationals of one of the listed countries to qualify. The programme is open to: PhD candidates PhD holders Academic researchers Applicants must demonstrate strong academic engagement in international law or closely related disciplines. Research Environment at Cambridge Successful candidates will join an active community of visiting scholars at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law. Collaborative Research Engagement Participants interact with researchers working on international law, human rights, peacebuilding, and legal theory.
