17 Fully Funded PhD Positions in Italy at Human Technopole 2026: AI, Genomics and Health Research Opportunities
globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

October 7, 2026

Description

Applications are open for 17 fully funded PhD positions at Human Technopole (HT) in Italy, offering talented and motivated graduates the opportunity to pursue advanced research in biology, human health and interdisciplinary science. The positions are part of the HT PhD Programme, which combines doctoral research with structured training and an international scientific environment. The available projects cover a wide range of rapidly developing research areas, including artificial intelligence, computational biology, genomics, structural biology, molecular medicine, imaging and health data science. Candidates from disciplines ranging from life sciences and medicine to computer science, mathematics, engineering and artificial intelligence are encouraged to explore the available projects. Human Technopole Fully Funded PhD Programme 2026 Human Technopole is offering the PhD positions as part of a unified research and training experience designed to help early-career scientists progress from doctoral students toward becoming independent researchers. PhD students will conduct their research at Human Technopole while working closely with Group Leaders and becoming part of an international scientific community. The institute provides access to advanced infrastructure, technologies and interdisciplinary expertise, alongside mentoring and guidance designed to support ambitious scientific research. The programme could therefore be particularly attractive to graduates who want to combine specialised doctoral research with exposure to multiple scientific disciplines. 17 PhD Positions Across Two Programmes The available positions are offered through two partner doctoral programmes: the PhD in Data Analytics and Decision Sciences (DADS) at Politecnico di Milano and the SEMM PhD Programme in Systems Medicine. 12 PhD Positions in Data Analytics and Decision Sciences Twelve positions are available through the DADS programme, with research carried out at Human Technopole. The research projects cover topics at the intersection of data science, artificial intelligence, computational biology and medicine. Available projects include: Morphodynamics of Cells with Extreme Shapes Biological Function of Cell Shape Noise Across Scales Predicting Antibiotic Resistance Evolution Active Learning for Cell Tracking Interpretable Microscopy Image Decomposition AI Foundation Models for Electronic Health Records Data Using Large Language Models to Improve Disease Prediction Computational Genomics Pangenome-Aware Single-Cell Transcriptomics Foundation Models and Transfer Learning for Predicting Cancer Vulnerabilities Across Tumour Cell States Mechanistic Discovery from Multimodal Human Cohorts using AI AI for Computational Pathology of the Human Pancreas Applications for these DADS positions are open from 30 July to 18 September 2026. Five PhD Positions in Systems Medicine A further five positions are available through the SEMM PhD Programme in Systems Medicine, with research also conducted at Human Technopole. The available projects focus on advanced biomedical and molecular research, including: Reconstructing the paediatric AML immune ecosystem to develop next-generation cellular immunotherapies Molecular mechanism of thyroid hormone regulation Primary cilia structure, composition, function in health and ciliopathies Advancing molecular and cellular dissection of cardiometabolic diseases Genetic and regulatory determinants of altered B cell function in immune diseases The SEMM application window runs from 28 July to 7 September 2026. Who Can Apply? The programme is aimed at talented graduates from a broad range of academic backgrounds. Potential applicants may come from life sciences, medicine, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, mathematics, physics, statistics, engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, computational biology, bioinformatics and related disciplines. Because the projects vary significantly, prospective applicants should carefully review individual research topics and identify projects that align with their academic background and research interests. Research Areas and Career Development One of the major strengths of the Human Technopole PhD opportunity is its interdisciplinary research environment. Candidates can work on projects connecting computational methods and advanced technologies with fundamental questions in biology and human health. The available research themes demonstrate the growing role of AI and data science in biomedical research, while other projects focus on molecular mechanisms, immune diseases, genomics, imaging and systems medicine. For early-career researchers, this environment can provide valuable exposure to advanced research methodologies and collaboration across scientific disciplines. Contacting a Group Leader Before Applying Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact the Group Leader responsible for their preferred project before submitting an application. They can send a CV and a short cover letter explaining their background and research interests. This informal contact can allow candidates to discuss the research project, ask questions and determine whether the opportunity is a suitable match for their interests. However, Human Technopole clearly states that contacting a Group Leader does not constitute an application. Applications must be submitted through the relevant official online application platform before the applicable deadline. Application Deadlines Candidates should pay close attention to the different deadlines for the two programmes. DADS PhD Programme: Applications close 18 September 2026. SEMM PhD Programme: Applications close 7 September 2026. As the deadlines differ, applicants should select the appropriate programme and complete the relevant application process as early as possible. How to Apply Interested graduates should explore the available PhD projects and identify the research area that best matches their academic and research interests. Applicants can contact the relevant Group Leader with a CV and short cover letter before submitting their formal application. The official application must then be completed through the appropriate DADS or SEMM application platform. With 17 fully funded PhD positions spanning AI, computational biology, genomics, molecular medicine, systems medicine and health data science, Human Technopole presents a significant opportunity for graduates seeking advanced scientific research experience in Italy. Candidates should review each project carefully, confirm the relevant deadline and submit their applications through the official platform before applications close.
