globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

March 19, 2026

Description

The The Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy (TIMEP) is now accepting applications for its 2026–2027 Nonresident Fellowship cohort. This prestigious program supports advocates, researchers, journalists, and legal professionals working to advance transparent, accountable, and just societies across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Applications are open until February 27, 2026, and the fellowship term will begin in mid-May 2026. About the TIMEP Nonresident Fellowship Program TIMEP’s Nonresident Fellowship Program creates space for emerging and mid-career experts whose work aligns with the organization’s mission. The program invests in individuals who are deeply engaged in advancing reform, human rights, and evidence-based policy discussions in the MENA region. The 2026–2027 cohort will include up to 12 fellows based in the region or with strong ties to it. Fellows are selected for their expertise, regional connectivity, and commitment to policy-relevant impact. What Fellows Can Expect As members of the cohort, nonresident fellows will: Produce solutions-oriented and policy-relevant analysis aligned with their proposed mandate Access targeted and personalized skills-building opportunities Collaborate with a diverse network of experts across the region Integrate into TIMEP’s global and regional network of policymakers, civil society actors, and advocacy organizations Contribute to public discourse through media, policy briefs, and events Each fellowship is tailored to the fellow’s proposed topic and expertise, ensuring both flexibility and meaningful engagement. Fellowship Structure and Commitment The 12-month fellowship is nonresident and part-time, with an expected workload of approximately 15–20 hours per month. While fellows are not full-time employees, they are considered integral members of the TIMEP team. The fellowship includes a stipend commensurate with experience. Importantly, this is not an academic or scholarly research fellowship. Instead, it focuses on policy engagement, practical analysis, and discourse-shaping initiatives. Fellowship Mandate Requirements Applicants must propose an original mandate consisting of: A defined topic A specific geographic focus The strongest proposals will align with at least one of TIMEP’s priority countries: Egypt Tunisia Sudan Syria Lebanon And intersect with one or more of the following priority themes: Governance and politics Security Economy and reconstruction Law and accountability Social movements and civil society Migration and displacement Misinformation and disinformation Applicants are encouraged to propose mandates that reflect developments and priorities on the ground while contributing meaningfully to regional and international policy discussions. Eligibility Criteria To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements: At least five years of relevant professional or academic experience A bachelor’s degree in a related field Proficiency in English and Arabic (written and spoken) Demonstrated commitment to TIMEP’s mission and principles Strong connectivity to civil society actors, grassroots groups, or regional experts TIMEP places particular importance on localized perspectives. Preference will be given to applicants living or actively working in the region. Named Fellowships: Special Designations For the 2026–2027 cohort, TIMEP will designate two named fellowships: The Sarah Hegazi Nonresident Fellowship The Mohamed Aboelgheit Nonresident Fellowship Applicants interested in either designation should follow the standard application process and indicate their interest accordingly. How to Apply Candidates must submit the following materials in English: A resume or curriculum vitae A cover letter that includes: The proposed fellowship mandate A brief explanation of the topic and its significance Applications must be submitted via the official application form by February 27, 2026. Shortlisted candidates will proceed to a second review round and will be asked to submit a more detailed statement of interest. Why Apply? The TIMEP Nonresident Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for experts and advocates to shape policy discourse while remaining embedded in their local contexts. Fellows gain visibility, strategic networks, and institutional support to elevate their work and amplify regional voices. For professionals committed to advancing justice, accountability, and reform in the MENA region, the 2026–2027 Nonresident Fellowship represents a powerful platform to drive meaningful impact.
