The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED) organization has announced a new consultancy opportunity for a Research Analyst specializing in the Middle East. The fully remote position offers experienced conflict researchers the chance to contribute to one of the world’s leading sources of real-time conflict, political violence, and protest data. The consultancy is designed for professionals with expertise in conflict analysis and a deep understanding of political and social developments across Yemen, Iraq, and the Gulf region. Successful candidates will work alongside ACLED’s analysis and data teams to produce research, support conflict monitoring efforts, and provide expert insights to policymakers, media organizations, and stakeholders worldwide. Consultancy Overview The Research Analyst consultancy focuses on supporting ACLED’s work across the Middle East region. The role is entirely remote and can be performed from any location with reliable internet access. Key consultancy details include: Position: Research Analyst, Middle East Organization: ACLED Location: Remote Employment Type: Contractor Department: Analysis Experience Level: Experienced Compensation: USD 21.63 per hour Workload: Approximately 20 hours per week, with the possibility of increasing to 30 hours weekly This flexible arrangement offers professionals the opportunity to contribute to high-impact conflict research while maintaining location independence. Supporting Conflict Analysis in the Middle East The successful consultant will contribute to ACLED’s analytical outputs focused on the Middle East, working under the guidance of the Senior Analyst for the region. Research activities will include: Producing original analytical reports and research outputs. Supporting regional conflict monitoring initiatives. Contributing Middle East expertise to thematic and global publications. Providing analytical insights for stakeholder-facing products. Supporting data-related research activities. The role requires a strong understanding of regional political dynamics and conflict trends, particularly in Yemen, Iraq, and Gulf countries. Key Responsibilities Analysis and Research The consultant will play a central role in generating evidence-based insights on conflict developments. Responsibilities include: Authoring original research outputs. Contributing to regional and global analytical products. Supporting thematic research initiatives. Providing expert commentary for publications. Assisting with additional analytical assignments as required. The work will help inform governments, humanitarian organizations, media outlets, and international stakeholders seeking accurate and timely information on regional developments. Data Management and Quality Assurance In addition to research activities, the consultant will support ACLED’s data collection and verification efforts. Responsibilities include: Assisting with data collection and review. Supporting data enrichment processes. Coordinating with data methodology teams. Identifying new local information sources. Improving regional conflict data coverage. Maintaining data quality and expanding source networks are critical aspects of ACLED’s work, making this an important component of the consultancy. Stakeholder Engagement and Outreach The consultant will also engage with a range of external audiences and partners. Activities may include: Providing expert analysis to donors and stakeholders. Offering commentary to media organizations. Participating in briefings and conferences. Supporting public dissemination of research findings. Promoting ACLED’s analytical work and datasets. This engagement helps ensure that conflict data is translated into actionable knowledge that can inform policy, humanitarian responses, and public understanding. Qualifications and Experience Required ACLED is seeking applicants with a combination of academic expertise, analytical skills, and professional experience. Minimum requirements include: A Master’s degree in Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Social Sciences, Conflict Studies, or a related field. At least two years of experience delivering analytical insights to diverse audiences. Demonstrated experience in conflict analysis. Extensive knowledge of politics and society in Yemen, Iraq, and/or Gulf countries. Fluency in English and Arabic.
