ActionAid International (AAI) is seeking two motivated Finance Interns to join its Finance team at the Global Secretariat hubs in Johannesburg and Nairobi. This six-month internship provides practical exposure, mentorship, and professional development in a dynamic, multi-country finance environment. The program aims to equip interns with hands-on experience in financial operations while contributing to AAI’s mission of social justice, gender equality, and poverty eradication. Key learning areas include: Financial reporting, accounting operations, and reconciliations Budget preparation and monitoring Compliance and audit readiness Cross-country financial processes Interns will gain practical exposure to financial systems, audit coordination, and reporting processes while collaborating with multi-functional teams in a global federation environment. Key Responsibilities 1. GS Payments & Ledger Maintenance Process multi-country payments with accuracy and policy compliance Support payroll and ensure timely postings Maintain financial records in finance systems Assist with month-end and year-end closure 2. Audit Support Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation Support internal and external audit processes Track audit queries and management letter points Contribute to GS Hub audit deliverables 3. Credit Card Management & Recharges Process and reconcile credit card expenses Follow up with cardholders for approvals Manage transactions through the Finance recharge mailbox Support monthly recharge reconciliations 4. Reconciliations Assist with balance sheet reconciliations Support clearance of outstanding items 5. Budgeting & Forecasting Collect departmental data for budgeting Update budget templates and forecasting tools Analyse expenditure trends and support variance follow-ups Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly reports and presentations 6. Additional Responsibilities Consolidate federation planning and reporting data Assist with project accounting Respond to finance queries from budget holders Support staff debtor reconciliations Perform other tasks assigned by the line manager Candidate Profile AAI seeks recent graduates with a degree in Finance or Accounting and foundational knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS or local GAAP is an advantage).
