ActionAid International is inviting applications for the position of Project Accountant – IHART Pooled, an internal opportunity open exclusively to staff within ActionAid Global Secretariat and Country Offices. This role sits within the Finance (Restricted Funding) function and plays a critical part in ensuring robust financial stewardship of restricted and emergency funding streams. The position is offered on a fixed-term contract of one year, with a hybrid working arrangement based in Johannesburg, Nairobi, or other ActionAid Country Offices. Role Overview The Project Accountant will operate under the supervision of the Restricted Finance Manager and the strategic direction of the GS Finance Manager – Restricted Funding. The role is responsible for providing transactional, reconciliatory, and reporting support across a portfolio of restricted funds, including: Emergency Appeals Disaster Preparedness and Response Fund (DPRF) DANIDA-funded projects Other IHART-related pooled and restricted funds The post holder will ensure that all financial processing is accurate, timely, and compliant with both organisational policies and donor requirements. This includes maintaining comprehensive financial documentation and supporting routine and ad hoc financial reporting. Key Responsibilities The Project Accountant will contribute to the effective management of restricted funding through the following core responsibilities: Financial Processing and Controls Ensure accurate posting of transactions in line with ActionAid financial policies Maintain complete and auditable financial records for assigned projects Support reconciliations and financial integrity checks Donor and Project Reporting Prepare routine financial reports for internal stakeholders and donors Support compliance with donor agreements and reporting timelines Assist with audits and financial reviews related to restricted funding Emergency and Pooled Fund Support Provide financial support for emergency appeals and rapid response mechanisms Ensure compliance with fund-specific guidelines, including DPRF and DANIDA requirements Collaboration and Coordination Work closely with finance colleagues across the Global Secretariat and Country Offices Support effective communication between finance, programme, and grant management teams Person Profile ActionAid International is seeking a finance professional with a strong background in project accounting and donor-funded environments. The ideal candidate will demonstrate both technical competence and alignment with ActionAid’s values.
