Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands (Hybrid) or Remote within 3 hours of CET Aflatoun International is seeking a Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) Intern to support its global Monitoring and Evaluation team. This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in data analysis, research, and program evaluation within a global non-profit working to advance social and financial education for children and youth. The internship will run for 3–4 months starting in March 2026 and is open to candidates based in Amsterdam or remotely within three hours of Central European Time (CET). About the Organisation Aflatoun International is a global non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social and financial education to children and young people around the world. Through partnerships with over 300 organisations across more than 100 countries, Aflatoun has reached over 10.5 million children and young people, empowering them with the knowledge and skills to create positive change in their communities. The organization’s programs focus on helping young people develop: Financial literacy Social awareness and responsibility Entrepreneurial thinking Civic engagement and leadership Aflatoun’s global reach and evidence-based approach position it as a leading knowledge partner in social and financial education. About the MERL Team The Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) Team plays a central role in assessing the effectiveness and impact of Aflatoun’s programs. Key areas of focus include: Evaluating program performance and outcomes Strengthening monitoring and evaluation capacity among partner organisations Producing research to inform policy and practice in social and financial education To date, Aflatoun has conducted more than 100 research studies, including Randomized Control Trials (RCTs) in countries such as: Cameroon Burkina Faso India Tajikistan Rwanda Uganda These studies contribute to global knowledge on the impact of social and financial education initiatives. Internship Overview The MERL Intern will work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to support data management, research activities, and evidence dissemination. The internship provides valuable exposure to: Monitoring and evaluation processes in international development programs Quantitative and qualitative research methodologies Knowledge management and evidence dissemination The intern will also have opportunities to collaborate with other departments across the organization. Key Responsibilities 1. Annual Survey Support (Approximately 60%) The intern will assist the MERL team with the organisation’s annual survey processes. Tasks include: Supporting data cleaning and preparation Assisting with data analysis Contributing to drafting the annual survey report 2. General Monitoring and Evaluation Support (Approximately 40%) The intern will also contribute to broader MERL activities across the organisation. Responsibilities include: Supporting monitoring and evaluation tasks for external projects Assisting with dissemination of research and evidence through: Webinars Journals Blogs Other knowledge-sharing platforms Assisting in the development of new M&E tools to measure program effectiveness Indexing and filing new research evidence within the internal knowledge repository Supporting the organisation, updating, and verification of the MERL database and project data Learning Opportunities Throughout the internship, the selected candidate will gain insight into the operations of multiple departments within the organisation. The intern may collaborate with teams such as: Education and Digital Team Communications Team Programme Team They will also be encouraged to participate in internal meetings and discussions with Aflatoun staff, gaining a broader understanding of how global education programs are designed, implemented, and evaluated. Qualifications and Requirements Applicants should meet the following criteria: Currently in the final stage of a master’s program or recently graduated in fields such as: Education Development Studies Economics Psychology Public Policy Related disciplines Strong proficiency in: Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel Experience with statistical analysis software such as: SPSS STATA Other relevant tools (preferred but not mandatory) Additional desired qualifications include: Demonstrated interest in social and financial education programs Knowledge or experience in knowledge management, including organising and sharing information effectively Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work collaboratively in a team environment Strong English language proficiency Applicants must also be eligible to undertake an internship in the Netherlands or work remotely within the required time zone.
