The Aga Khan Education Services (AKES), part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), is inviting applications for a Programme Coordinator position in Uganda. The role provides an opportunity for an experienced professional to coordinate an education support programme designed to help refugee students access quality education, strengthen their English language skills and successfully integrate into the school community. The position is based at the Aga Khan School Kampala and involves programme management, student welfare, academic monitoring, stakeholder engagement, legal compliance and reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with school leadership, teachers, parents, education stakeholders and other programme partners. About the Aga Khan Programme Coordinator Role The Programme Coordinator will oversee the overall management and coordination of the Student Support Programme from primary through secondary level. The programme was established in response to the arrival of refugee students at Aga Khan School Kampala. Since November 2025, the school has enrolled 111 refugee students from Nursery through Higher Secondary. Because some students require additional English-language support, AKES has introduced intensive English education and parallel learning arrangements. The programme is also preparing to support students aged 14 to 18 through specialised academic and vocational pathways. Students aged 14 to 17 are expected to undertake an intensive 10- to 12-month pre-IGCSE English programme before progressing to the full IGCSE curriculum. Students aged 18 will follow a foundational English and Mathematics programme before transitioning into a Pearson BTEC vocational pathway. Key Responsibilities The Programme Coordinator will serve as a central coordination point between Aga Khan School Kampala, the Aga Khan Education Board Uganda and other relevant stakeholders. Key responsibilities include developing implementation plans, coordinating programme logistics and administration, and ensuring that participating students maintain documentation required under Ugandan law, including relevant refugee-status documentation. The successful candidate will also liaise with Pearson representatives to support the establishment of the BTEC programme and collaborate with AKES EdTech specialists to incorporate technology into student skills development. Student Welfare and Integration An important part of the position involves supporting students’ successful integration into school life. The Programme Coordinator will work with parents and parent committees to promote understanding and adherence to school policies and behavioural expectations. The role will also involve working with headteachers and subject teachers to encourage students to participate in mainstream extracurricular activities. Student wellbeing will be monitored in collaboration with school counsellors and other relevant staff. Academic Monitoring and Support The Programme Coordinator will work with teachers and school leadership to establish systems for systematically collecting student learning data. Responsibilities will include regularly reviewing assessment information, compiling and analysing biweekly progress reports from teachers, and coordinating targeted academic interventions based on individual student needs. The position will therefore require strong analytical skills and the ability to use student performance information to support practical educational interventions. Reporting and Stakeholder Engagement The successful candidate will prepare comprehensive biweekly and monthly reports for the CEO and relevant stakeholders. Reports will cover areas including student academic progress, integration, parental engagement, documentation status and EdTech initiatives. Clear and consistent communication with stakeholders will be an essential component of the role. Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have a minimum bachelor’s degree in education, social science, management or a related field. At least three years of experience in programme coordination is required, preferably within education or the social sector. Experience working with refugee or displaced communities is also required. Candidates should demonstrate previous experience managing relationships with parents, school leadership and external stakeholders, as well as experience coordinating academic interventions. Skills and Competencies The position requires excellent organisational, planning and project management abilities. Strong data analysis and reporting skills are also important, as the successful candidate will be responsible for producing regular programme reports. Applicants should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills and be comfortable working with parents, teachers, counsellors, headteachers and other stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and fluency in written and spoken English are required. Knowledge of Dari is an added advantage.
