AgDevCo Ltd has announced a new recruitment drive for an Investment Manager position within its AgDevCo Ventures (AV) unit, targeting experienced finance and investment professionals interested in agribusiness development across East Africa. Organisational Background and Investment Mandate AgDevCo, established in 2009, is a social impact investor dedicated to financing agribusinesses that deliver both commercial returns and measurable development impact. The organisation currently manages approximately USD 340 million in assets and operates across more than 10 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. AgDevCo Ventures, its subsidiary, has raised USD 48 million to invest specifically in early-stage agribusiness SMEs in East Africa. The vehicle focuses on mezzanine debt investments designed to support business expansion, improve agricultural productivity, and stimulate regional economic development. Role Overview: Investment Manager Responsibilities The Investment Manager will report directly to the Head of AgDevCo Ventures and will be among the first hires supporting the launch of the new investment platform in 2026. The role is structured across three core functional areas: Investment Management (60%) The Investment Manager will lead and support investment origination, evaluation, and execution activities, including: Identifying and screening agribusiness investment opportunities in East Africa Conducting financial, operational, and impact due diligence on potential investments Leading or supporting commercial negotiations on investment structure and terms Preparing internal investment approval documentation for investment committee review Coordinating legal execution processes with internal and external counsel Supervising analysts, associates, and external technical advisors during due diligence The role places strong emphasis on mezzanine debt structuring and impact-driven investment decision-making. Portfolio Management (30%) The position includes ongoing oversight of AgDevCo Ventures’ investment portfolio, with responsibilities such as: Acting as the primary relationship manager for investee companies Monitoring financial and operational performance against agreed targets Identifying and managing investment risks across the portfolio Coordinating technical assistance to support investee growth Contributing to quarterly portfolio reporting for the Investment Committee and Board Maintaining a strong pipeline of future investment opportunities in the region This function is intended to ensure long-term value creation and measurable development outcomes. Operational and Strategic Support (10%) The Investment Manager will also contribute to internal operational management, including: Supporting annual budgeting and investment planning processes Contributing to overall strategy development and cost management Monitoring financial performance against KPIs Assisting in external reporting and stakeholder communication The role requires close collaboration with the Head of Ventures to ensure efficient fund operations and alignment with strategic objectives. Candidate Profile and Required Experience AgDevCo Ventures is seeking senior-level professionals with strong investment expertise and regional experience in Africa. Minimum requirements include: 6–8 years of experience in private equity, development finance institutions, impact investing, SME investment, or commercial banking Demonstrated investment experience in African markets, preferably with agribusiness exposure Strong financial modelling and valuation capabilities Experience with deal origination, structuring, and execution Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills Ability to manage relationships with investors, donors, and investee companies Understanding of donor-funded development priorities is considered an advantage The organisation highlighted the importance of both technical investment expertise and alignment with development impact objectives.
