The AGRO-WELL Open Call – Topic A offers up to €37,500 per project to demonstrate and validate smart farming solutions using AI, robotics, or augmented reality (AR). The initiative targets solutions that improve farm workers’ safety, reduce physical strain, and support more sustainable, data-driven agriculture on commercial farms. AGRO-WELL is part of the EU Horizon Europe programme, developing AR, robotics, digital, and data-based technologies to enhance occupational safety, reduce physical drudgery, and improve environmental performance across greenhouses, open fields, orchards, and pig farming. Selected projects will implement solutions in real farming environments and assess impacts on productivity, safety, ergonomics, and sustainability. Funding and Implementation Funding per project: Up to €37,500 (100% funding rate) Implementation period: 12–18 months starting November 2026 Project phases: Design, Development, Validation Funding covers: Personnel Equipment Travel Subcontracting Lump-sum funding model, no detailed cost reporting required, provided activities and deliverables are completed Projects should target solutions at TRL 5 or higher, with the objective to demonstrate and validate technologies at TRL 6/7. Objectives and Focus Areas Topic A seeks innovations that: Improve farm workers’ safety and reduce repetitive tasks or physical strain Support data-driven decision-making for sustainable farm management Operate in at least one of the following systems: Greenhouses Open fields Orchards Pig farming Exclude perennial crops such as vineyards and olive groves Eligible Applicants Applications are open to individual organizations or small consortia (up to 3 partners) active in agriculture technology, including: Startups, SMEs, and scale-ups developing smart farming technologies Research institutes, NGOs, or other organizations working in agriculture Commercial farms developing or hosting on-farm testing of smart farming solutions Eligible countries include: EU Member States Horizon Europe Associated Countries Certain non-associated third countries (per Guide for Applicants) International organisations headquartered in EU Member States or Associated Countries Important rules: Each consortium may submit only one proposal Each organisation may participate in only one consortium Existing AGRO-WELL consortium members and affiliates are ineligible Project Requirements Selected projects must: Demonstrate an AR/AI/robotics-based solution on at least one commercial farm Cover at least one full growing season for fruit and vegetable farming Conduct a mandatory assessment of impacts on safety, ergonomics, productivity, and sustainability Align clearly with Topic A objectives Overall eligibility will confirm: Legal entity status in an eligible country Single proposal per consortium Compliance with Topic A requirements Inclusion of at least one growing season for fruit and vegetable systems Key Dates Open Call Launch & Submissions: 5 Nov 2025 – 4 Feb 2026 Proposal Evaluation: Feb 2026 – Apr 2026 Contracting & Sub-Grant Agreements: May 2026 – Jul 2026 Sub-Project Implementation: Oct 2026 – Oct 2027 / Mar 2028 (12–18 months) Application Process Applicants must: Register and complete the online application form for Topic A Submit the full application package in PDF (zipped) to agro-well.FSTP@euroquality.fr Follow the format provided in the Guide for Applicants Ensure proposals align with Topic A objectives and expected outcomes Note: Late, incomplete, or misdirected submissions will be automatically rejected.
