The Fund advances resilient food systems, biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, and the economic, nutritional, and human rights of smallholder farmers and Indigenous Peoples through low-input, sustainable agricultural practices. Since its establishment in 2012, AEF has awarded more than USD 41 million to partner collaboratives operating in over 90 countries. Guided by international advisors deeply rooted in agroecology movements, AEF supports grassroots organizations, advocates, and researchers driving transformative food systems change. The Fund is fiscally sponsored by the Global Greengrants Fund and operates as a small, dynamic, and fast-growing global network. Position Summary The Communications Specialist Consultant will support the Communications Lead in strengthening AEF’s digital presence and storytelling capacity. The role focuses on social media management, website oversight, newsletters, digital asset management, and coordination with freelance creatives. The consultant will monitor digital trends, analyze audience engagement, and generate insights to assess and improve the effectiveness of AEF’s digital communications strategies. Key Responsibilities Social Media Strategy and Management Design and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with AEF’s mission and communications priorities. Manage and grow AEF’s presence across LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, while supporting the establishment of new platforms as needed. Develop platform-specific content that communicates grantee impact to donor and partner audiences. Create, curate, and schedule posts; develop and maintain a social media calendar. Gather impact stories from grantees and transform them into compelling digital assets. Support cross-promotion of events, international days, and campaigns through social media toolkits. Monitor trends, explore new digital formats, and introduce innovative approaches to boost reach and engagement. Analyze performance metrics and produce monthly social media reports to inform strategic adjustments. Website Management Manage and update the AEF website to ensure accuracy, relevance, and alignment with organizational branding. Lead website revamp initiatives, including content development, discoverability improvements, and performance analysis. Coordinate with web developers to improve functionality, accessibility, and user experience. Conduct A/B testing, UX research, and site enhancements to increase engagement. Monitor website performance, uptime, technical SEO, and security. Perform regular audits to identify broken links, outdated content, and improvement opportunities. Establish key performance indicators and prepare website analytics reports. Newsletter and Email Communications Support content collation, editing, formatting, and distribution of monthly newsletters. Use Mailchimp analytics to track engagement and assess campaign effectiveness. Assist with donor communications, announcements, event mailers, and targeted outreach emails. Writing, Editing, and Translation Coordination Provide writing and copy-editing support for publications, blogs, and event-related content. Coordinate translation of materials into Spanish and French, ensuring quality and timeliness. Manage collaboration with freelance writers, including editorial planning and coordination. Support management of the editorial calendar to highlight grantee work, international observances, and global agroecology discussions. Digital Asset Management (DAM) Manage AEF’s digital asset library using DAM tools such as Canto. Upload, tag, categorize, and archive photos, videos, and media assets to ensure accessibility and effective retrieval. Additional Communications Support Coordinate with graphic designers to produce reports, infographics, banners, and event materials. Develop Terms of Reference for video production and creative agencies. Support the Communications Lead with additional delegated tasks as required. Essential Qualifications Degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field. Five to seven years of professional experience in communications, with a strong focus on digital platforms. Proven experience managing websites, executing social media campaigns, and producing analytical reports. Demonstrated ability to craft compelling narratives related to food systems transformation and grassroots movements. Proficiency with tools such as Hootsuite, Mailchimp, Google Analytics, Canva, and Digital Asset Management systems. Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Desired Qualifications Familiarity with agroecology, climate change, and food systems transformation. Professional experience in the Global South. Experience working with US or European philanthropic organizations. Experience producing multimedia content, including video and virtual events. Multilingual proficiency, particularly in English, Spanish, and French. Knowledge of video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
