The Agroecology Fund (AEF) is a multi-donor initiative supporting agroecology movements worldwide. Its mission is to channel resources to resilient food systems that promote the economic and nutritional well-being, human rights of smallholders, fishers, forest gatherers, pastoralists, Indigenous Peoples, and their communities. The Fund also contributes to biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation. With over 50 donors from the U.S., Europe, and Asia, AEF’s community consists mainly of private philanthropic foundations, while also building partnerships with bilateral and multilateral agencies. Position Overview – Grants Lead Role: Manage global grantmaking operations and support Regional Agroecology Funds in Mexico, India, East Africa, and West Africa. Reports to: Co-Director, Angela Cordeiro Location: Remote, must align with Eastern Standard Time (EST) Type: Full-time, open-ended contract Salary: $85,000–$95,000 (U.S.) or regional-equivalent Start Date: April 6, 2026 Key Responsibilities Global Grant Program Operations Lead operations of the Global Grant Program. Review and refine the Grantmaking Operations manual. Coordinate annual grant calendars with Co-Directors and stakeholders. Prepare grant call guidelines in collaboration with leadership. Manage online platforms and applicant communications. Oversee contractors preparing nominations and proposals for Advisory Board review. Support Advisory Board meetings, facilitating recommendations. Monitor grantmaking workflows, ensuring compliance with internal and fiscal sponsor requirements. Track grantee disbursements in collaboration with Finance and Compliance teams. Document grant cycles, lessons learned, and improvement suggestions. Regional Fund Support Provide advisory support to Regional Funds grant teams. Coordinate annual grant calendars for regional programs. Collaborate to enhance regional grantmaking processes. Special Projects and Collaboration Contribute to process improvements and special projects. Collaborate with Resource Mobilization, MEL, Finance, and Regional teams as needed. Qualifications & Skills Deep alignment with AEF’s mission of transforming food systems and promoting human and planetary well-being. 5+ years experience in the philanthropic sector, including grantmaking and due diligence. International experience, comfortable working across cultures. Knowledge of agroecology movements and global trends. Detail-oriented, capable of managing complex workflows. Strong stakeholder relationship management, collaborative and consultative approach. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Spanish or French preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and grant management platforms (e.g., Submit, Submittable). Solution-oriented with the ability to contribute to overall organizational goals.
