The AL for Agribusiness Network is inviting individuals passionate about agriculture, entrepreneurship and sustainable food systems to express their interest in joining or establishing new Working Groups. The initiative aims to bring together network members and external experts to develop practical solutions to challenges affecting agriculture and agribusiness. Through member-led initiatives, including the Co-Creation Fund, Working Groups and Communities of Practice, the network has supported collaboration, knowledge exchange and collective action. The new Working Groups will build on these efforts by encouraging members to combine their expertise, identify shared challenges and develop solutions that create value for the wider agribusiness community. Application deadline: Rolling basis Funding available: Up to US$1,000 per group Application format: Online interest form About the AL for Agribusiness Network Working Groups The Working Groups are collaborative platforms where individuals with shared interests and complementary expertise can work together to address specific problems in agriculture and food systems. Each group will have a defined focus area and may undertake activities such as knowledge sharing, project design, research, networking and practical project implementation. Depending on the selected track, groups may focus on developing a specific deliverable or strengthening connections, mentorship and peer learning among network members. The initiative welcomes participants from diverse professional backgrounds who are interested in advancing agricultural development and contributing to practical, sustainable change. Key Focus Areas Applicants can propose initiatives under one or more of the following thematic areas: Farming Production and Sustainability: Crop, livestock and aquaculture systems, agroecology, regenerative agriculture, climate-smart farming, soil health, irrigation and water management. Other Specialised and Emerging Areas: Climate finance, carbon markets, export readiness, international trade, agritourism, biotechnology and seed systems. Applicants should select up to three impact areas that best align with their proposed problem and intended activities. Eligibility and Participation Requirements The opportunity is open to individuals who are passionate about improving food systems and contributing value to the AL for Agribusiness Network. Applicants are encouraged to bring experience, ideas or skills relevant to their proposed Working Group. Applications are submitted individually rather than exclusively by established teams. However, each Working Group must include at least three core members affiliated with ALA/AL for Agribusiness. External collaborators may participate alongside these core network members. Individuals who already have a team may propose a group directly. Those with only a few potential members can seek connections to people with complementary skills, while applicants without an existing team may request support in identifying relevant network members. Available Participation Tracks The initiative offers two participation tracks. Track A: Project-Based and Funded This track is designed for groups seeking to produce a specific output, such as a pilot project, research paper, practical tool or other defined deliverable. Groups requiring financial assistance should prepare an implementation proposal that explains the activities, milestones, expected results and proposed budget. The network has allocated up to US$1,000 per group to support deliverables. Track B: Community and Knowledge Sharing This track focuses on building trust, peer learning, networking, mentorship and sustained collaboration. Groups can exchange knowledge, share experiences and strengthen relationships without necessarily pursuing a funded project. Support Available to Selected Groups Working Groups can identify the support they need from the network, including coaching and mentoring, introductions to members with specific expertise, connections to partner organisations and financial assistance. Groups requesting funding should provide a realistic estimate and a brief justification explaining how the proposed expenditure will help achieve their milestones. Financial requests must remain within the stated maximum allocation of US$1,000 per group. Expected Deliverables and Duration Each group should identify the specific outputs or achievements it intends to deliver to members or the broader agribusiness network. Potential outputs may include research findings, pilot initiatives, practical tools, knowledge-sharing activities, stronger partnerships or documented lessons. Applicants can indicate an intended duration of three months for a rapid taskforce, six months for a standard project, or 12 months or longer for a sustained community. Groups may also indicate their willingness to present progress or learning at a network event, supporting knowledge exchange and wider participation. How to Apply Interested individuals should complete the official AL for Agribusiness Network Working Group Interest Form. The form requests contact information, current role and organisation, the problem the proposed group intends to address, relevant impact areas, preferred participation track, proposed group name, objectives, membership plans, support requirements, expected outputs and intended duration. Applicants should present a clearly defined problem, realistic objectives and measurable deliverables. Those proposing funded projects should ensure that their budgets are proportionate to the expected outcomes. Application deadline: Rolling basis. No fixed closing date is stated in the announcement. Application method: Online interest form. Why Participate? The Working Groups provide an opportunity for agricultural professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, development practitioners and other interested individuals to collaborate on shared challenges. Participants can strengthen professional networks, exchange expertise, develop practical solutions and contribute to more resilient and inclusive food systems.
