globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

September 25, 2026

Description

Amani Africa Media and Research Services has opened applications for the Sixth Edition of the Amani Africa Training Institute on the African Union (AU), one of Africa’s leading professional training programmes on continental governance and multilateral policymaking. The intensive three-day programme will take place from 16–18 November 2026 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, bringing together policymakers, diplomats, researchers, civil society leaders, and media professionals from across Africa. Designed to provide both practical and strategic knowledge, the training offers participants a comprehensive understanding of the African Union’s institutions, decision-making processes, peace and security architecture, democratic governance agenda, and Africa’s evolving role in global affairs. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis, with the final deadline set for 25 September 2026. About Amani Africa Amani Africa is a pan-African policy research, training, and consulting think-do-tank specialising in multilateral processes that shape Africa’s political, governance, and peace and security landscape. Headquartered in Addis Ababa, the organisation has established itself as a respected source of policy analysis and capacity building focused on the African Union and regional institutions. Since launching the Training Institute in 2019, Amani Africa has equipped hundreds of professionals with the knowledge and practical skills needed to engage effectively with AU institutions and continental policy processes. The programme combines academic expertise with real-world policy experience delivered by seasoned experts, practitioners, and scholars. Training Overview The 2026 edition of the Training Institute will provide participants with an in-depth examination of the African Union’s formal and informal policymaking mechanisms. Rather than focusing solely on institutional structures, the programme explores how decisions are negotiated, implemented, and influenced within the AU ecosystem. Participants will gain practical insights into regional integration, institutional reform, peace and security, democratic governance, and the relationship between AU institutions, Member States, and Regional Economic Communities. The training also emphasises strategies for effectively engaging the AU to maximise policy and advocacy impact. The programme will be held in Addis Ababa, the diplomatic capital of Africa and home to the African Union headquarters, offering participants valuable exposure to the continent’s premier multilateral policy environment. Learning Objectives The Amani Africa Training Institute is designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of both the theory and practice of African Union governance. By the end of the programme, participants will have developed: A comprehensive understanding of AU structures, institutions, and decision-making dynamics. Insight into the political, legal, and institutional factors shaping current policy developments and reforms. Practical knowledge of the roles played by the African Union Commission, AU organs, Member States, and regional institutions within the governance and peace and security architecture. Effective engagement strategies for civil society organisations and policy actors seeking to influence AU policies and continental decision-making processes. Who Should Apply? The programme welcomes applications from professionals and researchers whose work relates to African governance, diplomacy, regional integration, peace and security, and public policy. Eligible applicants include: Staff members of the African Union, Regional Economic Communities, Regional Mechanisms, international organisations, and government institutions. Officials working within Ministries of Foreign Affairs on African affairs and AU engagement. Diplomats accredited to the African Union. Journalists and media professionals covering African Union and continental policy issues. Representatives of Africa-based civil society organisations, particularly youth-led and women-led organisations. Researchers and academics with an interest in the mandate, institutions, and policymaking processes of the African Union. How to Apply Applicants are required to submit their application by email with the subject line: Application for Training The application package must include: A one-page cover letter explaining how the training is relevant to the applicant’s professional work. A two-page résumé or CV containing contact information and the details of two referees. Applications should be sent directly to amaniafrica.et@gmail.com. Important Dates Applicants should note the following key dates: Application deadline: 25 September 2026 Selection process: Rolling basis Notification of successful applicants: By 2 October 2026 Training dates: 16–18 November 2026 Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Because applications are reviewed as they are received, early submission is strongly encouraged. Why This Training Matters As the African Union continues to play an increasingly significant role in continental governance, peacebuilding, regional integration, and global diplomacy, professionals working across government, civil society, media, and international organisations require a practical understanding of how AU institutions function beyond formal procedures. The Amani Africa Training Institute bridges this gap by combining policy analysis with practical engagement strategies. Participants not only deepen their understanding of AU governance but also strengthen their ability to design advocacy initiatives, contribute to regional policymaking, and engage effectively with continental institutions. The programme is particularly valuable for emerging and experienced professionals seeking to expand their expertise in African multilateral affairs while building networks with practitioners and experts from across the continent. Application Deadline The deadline to apply for the Amani Africa Training Institute 2026 is 25 September 2026. Interested candidates should prepare their application materials and submit them via email before the closing date.
