Program Intern Role Overview The Program Intern position offers an opportunity for early-career professionals to gain hands-on experience in human rights programming within a dynamic and mission-driven environment. Based in Nairobi, the intern will support the Technology and Human Rights Department, contributing to a broad portfolio of initiatives focused on governance, social justice, and civil liberties. The internship is designed to build practical skills in research, coordination, and program delivery while providing exposure to real-world human rights work. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Programmes and contribute to ensuring the efficient execution of projects and campaigns. Key Details: Location: Nairobi, Kenya Start Date: 1st May 2026 Duration: 3 months (renewable) Key Responsibilities The Program Intern will play a supportive but integral role across multiple program functions. Responsibilities include: Conducting desk research and literature reviews on human rights issues to inform policy briefs and campaign strategies Monitoring national news and emerging human rights trends to provide timely insights to program teams Assisting in the preparation, formatting, and documentation of reports, activity summaries, and donor updates Supporting logistical coordination for workshops, training sessions, and public engagement activities Contributing to the development of knowledge products that are both informative and accessible Providing administrative support during field missions and community-based initiatives Assisting with scheduling, calendar management, and preparation for high-level meetings These responsibilities provide a well-rounded experience in both operational and strategic aspects of human rights programming. Required Experience and Skills The ideal candidate is a recent graduate with a strong interest in human rights and social justice. The role requires both technical competencies and a commitment to organizational values. Essential Qualifications: Academic background in Human Rights, Law, Social Sciences, International Relations, or a related field Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and digital collaboration tools High attention to detail and proactive problem-solving skills Ability to work effectively in a diverse and multicultural team Desirable Attributes: Prior internship or volunteer experience in an NGO or human rights setting Basic understanding of Kenya’s human rights landscape and civil society structures Work Ethic and Behavioral Expectations The role is guided by a behavioral framework that emphasizes how work is approached and delivered.
