Applications are now open for the 2026–2028 Research Fellowship at the Georgetown Center for the Constitution. Fellowship Objective The primary goal of the fellowship is to nurture emerging scholars who are developing original research in constitutional law. It is particularly aimed at individuals who have not held a tenure-track academic position for more than ten years. Through mentorship and scholarly engagement, fellows gain valuable feedback from established experts while strengthening their academic profiles. The fellowship emphasizes: Advancing original research in constitutional law and theory Supporting early-career academics in refining scholarly work Encouraging collaboration across different levels of academic experience Building long-term professional networks within the legal academic community Fellowship Structure and Duration The Research Fellowship spans two years, with the possibility of extension up to three years based on performance and contribution. The flexible, non-residential format allows fellows to participate while maintaining their existing academic or professional commitments. Key components of the fellowship include: Annual in-person gatherings for scholarly exchange Monthly virtual workshops conducted via Zoom Ongoing mentorship from senior constitutional law scholars Opportunities to present and refine work-in-progress The first annual gathering is scheduled to take place on November 19–20, 2026, at the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.. During these sessions, fellows will present draft research and receive detailed commentary from leading experts in the field. Research and Participation Expectations Fellows are expected to actively contribute to the academic community and demonstrate a strong commitment to research excellence. Program requirements include: Drafting one original scholarly article during the fellowship period Presenting research at least once during the annual gathering Participating in monthly virtual workshops and discussions Engaging with feedback from senior scholars and peers This structure ensures that fellows not only produce meaningful research but also refine their work through rigorous academic dialogue. Eligibility Criteria The fellowship is open to individuals who meet the following qualifications: Possession of a Juris Doctor (JD) or a doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline Early-career academic status or demonstrated interest in pursuing academia Strong background in constitutional law or constitutional theory Evidence of scholarly potential, typically through publications or academic writing samples Successful applicants often have experience in tenure-track roles or have completed prestigious legal clerkships, such as federal appellate clerkships. About the Georgetown Center for the Constitution Founded in 2012, the Georgetown Center for the Constitution is a leading institution dedicated to the study and interpretation of constitutional law. Based at Georgetown University Law Center, the Center is widely recognized for its commitment to exploring how best to interpret and apply the United States Constitution.
