Yale University is accepting applications for the 2027 Maurice R. Greenberg World Fellows Program, a four-month, full-time residential leadership fellowship for emerging leaders from around the world. Hosted by Yale’s Jackson School of Global Affairs through the International Leadership Center, the programme brings together an international cohort of professionals who have demonstrated significant achievements and leadership in their communities, countries or fields. The 2027 World Fellows Program will run from mid-August to mid-December 2027 at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. About the Yale World Fellows Program The World Fellows Program provides selected participants with an intensive environment for professional development, intellectual exchange and global networking. During their four months at Yale, Fellows participate in seminars, discussions, skills-development activities and university events. They also have opportunities to audit Yale courses, conduct independent or collaborative research, interact with faculty and students, and share their professional expertise through talks and panel discussions. The programme has developed a global alumni network of more than 450 World Fellows across over 100 countries. What World Fellows Do The programme combines academic engagement, professional development and leadership activities. Fellows participate in weekly seminars, including sessions where they discuss their professional work and perspectives on building a “good society.” They also engage with distinguished guests through salon discussions covering important global issues. World Fellows receive individual and group coaching and participate in skills-development activities. They can also audit many of Yale’s 2,000-plus courses, pursue individual projects and undertake independent research. Another important component is engagement with the Yale community. Fellows give talks, participate in panels and mentor Yale students through the Student Liaison Program. Eligibility Requirements The World Fellows Program is intended for experienced professionals and emerging leaders rather than full-time students or academics. Applicants should generally be five to 25 years into their professional careers and have demonstrated significant accomplishments at the regional, national or international level. There is no minimum or maximum age requirement, although the programme states that the average age of a World Fellow is 39. Applicants must also: Be citizens of a country other than the United States Be fluent in English Have a demonstrated record of achievement and integrity Show meaningful commitment to positive impact at the local, national or international level Demonstrate potential for future leadership and global impact Possess strong critical, creative, entrepreneurial and strategic thinking abilities Be willing to participate fully in the programme Remain in residence at Yale throughout the four-month fellowship Dual U.S. citizens may apply, although preference is given to candidates whose professional work is focused outside the United States. Who Cannot Apply as a Student or Academic? The World Fellows Program is not a degree programme and does not accept full-time students or full-time academics whose primary occupation is student or scholar. The fellowship does not award a Yale degree, academic diploma, academic credit or transcript. Applicants seeking degree-based study at Yale must apply through the relevant Yale academic school or programme. Fellowship Benefits The Yale World Fellows Program provides a comprehensive financial support package for selected Fellows. The benefits include: Taxable living stipend to help cover living expenses in New Haven Modest furnished one- or two-bedroom apartment for the duration of the programme Medical insurance Round-trip travel from the Fellow’s home country Fellows do not pay tuition or fees to Yale University for participation in the World Fellows Program. Application Requirements Applications are submitted entirely online. Applicants are required to provide: Résumé or curriculum vitae of no more than three pages Personal statement of no more than 600 words Three letters of recommendation Brief video statement US$20 application fee Applicants can create an online account, work on their application before the deadline, upload materials and request recommendation letters through the application system. The programme does not require applicants to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores. However, English fluency is essential, and candidates who reach the final stages may have their English proficiency assessed during an interview. Recommendation Letters Applicants may submit three recommendation letters. The letters should come from people who can provide meaningful professional assessments of the applicant’s career development and leadership potential. Recommendation letters should be submitted by the application deadline. Late letters may be accepted for a limited period, but the programme states that their inclusion in the review cannot be guaranteed. Letters of recommendation must be submitted in English. Video Statement The video statement must be recorded directly through the online application platform. Applicants cannot upload a separately recorded video or submit a video hosted on another platform. The application system allows applicants one additional opportunity to re-record the video if they are dissatisfied with the initial recording. The programme currently supports video recording through Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. How to Strengthen an Application Applicants should use the personal statement to clearly explain their leadership journey, professional achievements, impact and reasons for participating in the World Fellows Program. The résumé should demonstrate career progression and significant accomplishments rather than simply listing responsibilities. Recommendation letters should ideally come from professional contacts who can provide specific evidence of the applicant’s leadership, achievements, character and future potential. The video statement should complement—not simply repeat—the written application and should communicate the applicant’s perspective clearly and authentically. How to Successfully Apply Applicants should begin by reviewing the profiles of previous World Fellows and the programme’s selection criteria. They should then prepare an updated three-page CV, a focused personal statement and identify three appropriate professional recommenders. Because the programme requires full-time residence and participation, applicants should also ensure they can commit to living at Yale in New Haven from mid-August through mid-December 2027. The programme is intensive, with seminars, skills sessions, university activities, presentations, networking events and other commitments throughout the fellowship.
