Application Deadline

August 15, 2026

Description

Young leaders committed to fostering peace, inclusion, and social cohesion through intercultural dialogue are invited to apply for the second edition of the Youth for Peace: UNESCO Intercultural Leadership Programme. The global initiative aims to equip emerging leaders with the skills, resources, mentorship, and funding needed to drive dialogue-based solutions in increasingly complex and interconnected societies. Applications are open until 19 July 2026 at 23:59 CET (Paris time). Empowering a New Generation of Intercultural Leaders As communities worldwide grapple with growing polarization, inequality, and rapid technological transformation, UNESCO is investing in leaders who can bridge divides and strengthen trust across cultures and communities. The Youth for Peace Programme is UNESCO’s flagship leadership initiative focused on advancing peace through intercultural dialogue. The programme recognizes dialogue not merely as a communication tool but as a transformative leadership practice capable of mobilizing collective action, fostering mutual understanding, and creating sustainable solutions to shared challenges. Selected participants will join a global cohort of 50 Young Leaders and gain access to leadership training, mentorship opportunities, community action funding, and international policy engagement platforms. 2026 Theme: Human Connection and Dialogue in the Age of Artificial Intelligence The 2026 edition focuses on “Human Connection and Dialogue in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” Participants will explore how AI is reshaping communication, learning, work, and intercultural relationships while addressing critical issues such as: • Misinformation, hate speech, and online polarization • Algorithmic bias and digital discrimination • Unequal access to technology and digital skills • Representation of diverse cultures, languages, and knowledge systems in AI The programme will also examine opportunities for AI to enhance: • Multilingual communication • Accessibility and inclusion • Civic participation • Cultural preservation • Conflict prevention • International collaboration Participants will be encouraged to develop practical, dialogue-centered solutions that place human connection at the heart of technological advancement. Three-Phase Leadership Journey The programme is structured around three interconnected phases designed to strengthen leadership capabilities, support practical action, and amplify impact globally. Phase 1: Leadership Development Participants will engage in an immersive online learning experience covering topics such as: • Intercultural leadership and trust-building • Strategic communication and stakeholder engagement • Conflict transformation and mediation • Adaptive leadership and foresight • Ethical and inclusive use of AI tools • Designing dialogue-based initiatives for social impact The training aims to help participants navigate complex social environments while promoting collaboration across cultural differences. Phase 2: Community Action Initiative Following the training phase, participants will design and implement an intercultural dialogue initiative aligned with the programme theme. Successful action plans will receive USD 10,000 in seed funding to support implementation at local or national levels. Projects must: • Address the theme of AI and human connection • Use intercultural dialogue as a core methodology • Be implemented within six months Throughout implementation, participants will continue receiving mentorship, technical guidance, and peer support. Phase 3: Global Engagement and Influence Participants will present their project outcomes through the UNESCO Global Youth Dialogue for Peace, where they will: • Share lessons learned and best practices • Engage with policymakers and global leaders • Contribute youth perspectives to international peace and inclusion discussions • Expand their professional networks Graduates will also join the Youth for Peace Global Alumni Network, providing ongoing opportunities for collaboration, advocacy, and leadership development. Eligibility Requirements UNESCO is seeking emerging leaders who demonstrate commitment to dialogue, inclusion, and social transformation. Applicants must: • Be between 25 and 45 years old as of 22 October 2026 • Have a demonstrated leadership record in their field • Show commitment to intercultural dialogue and social impact • Demonstrate openness to collaboration and learning • Have the potential to create positive change within their communities • Be available to participate fully in all programme activities English is the official working language of the programme, and all applications and communications must be submitted in English. Selection Process The selection process consists of four stages: • Application submission • Eligibility screening • Technical assessment by an international jury • Final selection UNESCO has confirmed that the use of AI tools for application support is permitted, provided applicants maintain ownership of the content and ensure submissions authentically reflect their experiences, perspectives, and motivations. The final cohort of 50 Young Leaders is expected to be announced by mid-October 2026. A Global Platform for Peacebuilding The Youth for Peace Programme offers a unique opportunity for emerging leaders to strengthen their leadership skills, secure funding for community-based initiatives, engage with international policymakers, and contribute to global conversations on peace and intercultural understanding. As artificial intelligence continues to reshape societies worldwide, UNESCO is positioning young leaders at the forefront of efforts to ensure technological progress promotes inclusion, mutual understanding, and social cohesion. Applications remain open until 19 July 2026.
