Early Career Fellowship: Shaping the Future of the Internet The Internet has become a transformative resource, reshaping how people collaborate, share ideas, and innovate. It is the foundation for work, learning, communication, and social connection. Its success is rooted in a culture of openness, collaboration, and collective good. However, global challenges increasingly threaten the Internet’s fundamental principles. The Early Career Fellowship addresses this by empowering a new generation of Internet champions—professionals who bridge technology and policy and advocate for an open, secure, and globally connected Internet. Fellows gain direct mentorship and access to leading Internet thinkers, while developing leadership, communications, advocacy, and project management skills. This program provides a unique opportunity to bring ideas to life and shape the Internet’s future. About the Program: Early Career Fellowship The Fellowship provides unparalleled access to world-class experts, including Professor Dr. Laura DeNardis (American University) and scholars from the Oxford Internet Institute. The program equips fellows with knowledge in project management, advocacy, and diplomacy, laying the foundation to become future leaders in the Internet ecosystem. Each year, a cohort of 15 fellows is selected for the six-month program, which includes: Seminars, courses, and discussion sessions Networking and mentoring opportunities Collaborative project work Culmination in a final project presentation at a closing symposium The program blends practical experience with strategic guidance, helping fellows turn innovative ideas into real-world impact. Who Is Eligible: Early Career Fellowship The Fellowship is designed for early career professionals in the Internet ecosystem—technical, policy, economic, or social—who are initiating or interested in projects to grow or strengthen the Internet. Applicants must meet the following criteria: Undergraduate or vocational degree, or at least three years of relevant work experience Fewer than ten years of professional experience in an Internet-related field An innovative and impactful project proposal related to the Internet Reliable broadband Internet connection and appropriate device Availability to participate fully in the five-month program Proficiency in English, both verbal and written Early Career Fellowship Commitments Selected fellows are expected to: Dedicate a minimum of six hours per week to coursework, seminars, and project work Complete the six-month program in its entirety Attend all required seminars and manage time zone differences for global collaboration Active participation and commitment are essential to maximize the benefits of the Fellowship experience. Applications are reviewed confidentially through a multi-step evaluation process by the selection committee, which seeks to ensure professional, geographical, and gender diversity in the cohort.
