Higher education professionals seeking to strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship within their institutions are invited to apply for the 2026 HEInnovate Train the Trainers Programme. The initiative will culminate in a two-day in-person workshop scheduled for 8–9 October 2026 in Budapest, Hungary, bringing together participants from across Europe to explore effective strategies for implementing the HEInnovate framework. The programme is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, tools, and practical skills required to maximize the use of HEInnovate within their institutions. Through a combination of online and face-to-face learning activities, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to foster innovation, entrepreneurial thinking, and strategic institutional development. Strengthening Innovation in Higher Education HEInnovate is a self-assessment and capacity-building tool that helps higher education institutions evaluate and enhance their entrepreneurial and innovative potential. The Train the Trainers Programme aims to empower institutional leaders, educators, and professionals to effectively use the platform and promote innovation-driven transformation within their organizations. A total of 30 participants will be selected to participate in the programme. Successful applicants will engage in collaborative learning experiences designed to build expertise in applying HEInnovate principles and resources. What Participants Will Learn Selected participants will have the opportunity to: Deepen their understanding of the HEInnovate framework and supporting resources. Explore practical tools, including action cards and implementation materials. Develop strategic approaches for utilizing self-assessment outcomes. Learn how to align HEInnovate activities with institutional goals and leadership priorities. Exchange experiences and best practices with peers from different countries and institutions. Build the skills required to organize and facilitate HEInnovate workshops within their own institutions. Promote innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives among colleagues and stakeholders. The programme also offers valuable networking opportunities, enabling participants to connect with professionals who share a commitment to advancing innovation in higher education. Programme Structure The Train the Trainers Programme will be delivered through three interconnected phases designed to support continuous learning and practical application. The programme includes: A preparatory online session held approximately one month before the main workshop. A two-day in-person workshop in Budapest on 8–9 October 2026. A follow-up online session three months after the workshop. Participants are expected to attend all components of the programme to ensure a comprehensive learning experience and maximize the benefits of participation. Who Should Apply? The programme is open to professionals working within higher education institutions who are interested in using HEInnovate to strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship within their organizations. Potential applicants may include: Academic leaders and administrators. Innovation and entrepreneurship coordinators. Research and development professionals. Quality assurance specialists. Strategic planning officers. Project managers involved in institutional transformation initiatives. While prior knowledge of HEInnovate is considered beneficial, it is not a mandatory requirement for participation. Selection Criteria and Priority Considerations Given the limited number of available places, organizers will apply a competitive selection process to identify participants who can maximize the impact of the training within their institutions. Priority will be given to applicants who: Have never participated in a previous HEInnovate Train the Trainers workshop. Are affiliated with one of the 65 European Universities Alliances. Are based in European Union Member States. Organizers have also emphasized that participant selection will strive to ensure gender balance and broad geographical representation across participating countries. To maximize institutional impact and diversity, only one participant per institution will be selected for the programme. International Networking and Collaboration Opportunities One of the key advantages of the programme is the opportunity to build international networks with professionals committed to innovation in higher education. Participants will engage with colleagues from diverse institutional backgrounds, creating opportunities to exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and explore collaborative solutions. Workshop Venue and Logistics The main training workshop will take place at ELTE PPK Kazinczy Utca in Budapest, Hungary.
